Hi, it sounds like your citolapram isn't working and this needs to be addressed with your doctor.  On the right medication you will feel much better.  As for therapy, it can be very helpful.  I went thru this same thing, and learned that once I brought things into the open and was able to talk about them, I started feeling better.  What happens is instead of us dealing with bad things, we tuck them neatly away thinking they are gone and cannot bother us.  But they return and with a vengeance which comes out as depression and/or anxiety.  Sometimes it is a lot easier to speak with a stranger (therapist) than a friend or family member.  I too, was afraid of what might come back to me, but once it did, it wasn't bad at all.  I think it was just the fear of having to face it again that was so bad.  You can get your life back. Let your doctor know that your medication isn't helping and if he is a psychiatrist (I hope he is) ask him why he isn't counseling you.  You have lots of choices, and there is so much help for you.  Don't be afraid, once you get these bad these out and talking about them, they will be gone.  Take care.....

Hi,
I'm on Citalopram also ---for 7 years, (citalopram is otherwise known as CELEXA) and aside for a few minor side-effects, which we've discussed on other threads, I really like Celexa.

Celexa doesn't make me dizzy or shaky , which is great. Also, I'm not in a fog when I take it. I tried Paxil once, for example, and it turned me into a zombie, so my Doc switched me to Zoloft right away (for 5 years), and then Celexa---however everybody is different, so we all react differently .

Anyhow, Celexa does make me tired, so I just take it at night, which can knock me out in front of the TV, but maybe that's a good thing and it might even help YOU to sleep at night.

CELEXA takes a few weeks to take effect, and actually, for me, it took a few months before I really enjoyed it. As I said, I've been on it for 7+ years.

Also, believe it or not, I also take a BETA BLOCKER (like you do)  for blood pressure, and my Beta has ZERO side effects. I love it and have been on it for 5 yrs. My Doc said I'll probably be on my BETA all my life, which is just fine w/ me. My blood pressure is totally normal ever since---it's great! (My BETA is called METOPROLOL).

Counseling does help. I've been to a variety, and none, I repeat none, have ever forced me to talk or asked me uncomfortable questions.

I know that on TV, we see those actors talking to counselors and the counselors try to "dig" stuff out of their patients, (eg: on the SOPRANOS) but Blondie, in real life that's probably never going to happen.

So if I were you, I would not be afraid to talk to someone.

Good luck.
