ALWAYS NAUSEATED AFTER EATING

For the past 4-5 weeks, after each meal, I experience nausea, flu like symptons such as chills and aching all over. I also have reflux and occasionally vomit. As long as I just snack lightly through out the day I do not experience these symptons. It only occurs when I eat a normal meal. It occurs regardless of the type food I eat.  I have tried no fat, low fat and high fat food as well as the extremes in carbohydrates and sugar. Even just eating a single bowl of Cherrios with skim milk and Equal causes these symptons. Also, as an after thought, I also experience weakness and feel sleepy along with the other symptons.

2 years ago i was diagnosed with hector pylori bacterial infection, test reult is 85.
i was given 14 days treatment(not prev pav) ,it consists of pepto bismal, tetracyline, flagyll.
i did not feel any better, and they treated me for gastritis, they gave me first prevacid, then prolosev and the problem went away.
but then it came back this year,so i tested for that pylori bacteria again and result is 5.
the doctor prescribed prev pac and i have not decided if i want to take it ,as my result of 5 is very low compared to what i had before.
i have tried nexxium,zantac,prilosev,gas x ,alka seltzer .
i found out that if i keep taking say prilosev every day as prescribed,i have problem digesting my food and i have a bulge in my stomach and a headache to go along with it.
when that happens,i take pineapple juice or cranberry juice to bring my acid level back and then i feel okay.
today,i have ordered some generic prevacid ,it has not arrived yet, once it has,it will replace prilosev.
i am careful with what i eat, plain boil food over rice,or a plain hamburger grilled on bread or a salad ,i do okay.
nothing greasy,nothing deep fried.
but i still have this stomach protrusion,i dont know if this is a gastritis related problem or just plain fat from sitting too much in front of the pc.
then i started using garlic more in my food preparation, and it seems to be good for me.i mean the fresh garlic, not the pill,i add it to my food and just eat it with my food.
now i understand that pylori bacteria is very hard to kill and there is no other bacteria which can survive in our stomach,so why does garlic make me feel better??
i am not a doctor,i am just speaking my experience-
from what i read, half of the world population have h pylori infection,so if you test 5 or 6,is that a big deal??
if you take prilosev or nexxium or prevacid every day, would it shut down your acid producing ability and cause food indigestion which cause headache and hardness in your stomach?

I have had alot of pain in my abdomen, nausea, weight loss and other symptoms. I saw a physician and she said gall bladder. I was  tested for everything under the sun and finally was diagnosed with h pylori. I have been on prevpac for a week. The tenderness around my navel is gone but I still have severe pain under my right rib, nausea,& weakness with trembling. I may have the pylori but I feel there is something else wrong too. I do think the prevpac is working but the pain in my upper abdomen is only getting worse. I have pain in my upper back and sometimes shooting pain up my right breast to my neck. Maybe someone could tell me if these are normal sympotms of h pylori. It's a nasty bacteria.

I had similar symptoms.  I had these symptoms for years.  I always complained to doctors. No testing was ever suggested by doctors.
I had read about ulcers, and h. pylori bacteria causing lots of different gastric symptoms.
It was a "shot in the Dark", on my part, I REQUESTED an H. Pylori test (serum).
It came back positive...0-1 normal range (mine came back 6.1) I am now on a 14 day course of antibiotics called "PREV PAC".
IF ANYONE ELSE HAS BEEN THOUGH THIS TREATMENT PLEASE POST AND LET ME KNOW YOUR RESULTS.

I know this may be TOO general, but do you take the Pill, or have you changed doses? Towards the middle of last year I started taking the pill to regulate my periods, and I started noticing similar symptoms that you described. I kept taking it for another couple of months until I could find a pattern and then I stopped for two months. The problem went away. The solution "for me" was a lower dose pill. This may not be your problem, but maybe food for thought. Hope you feel better.

another possibility; delayed stomach emptying, also called gastroparesis. You might want to ask your doctor about a gastric emptying scan.

Hello - thanks for asking your question.

Please understand my limitations over the internet as I have neither met nor examined you. This information is for patient education only.  Please see your personal physician for further evaluation.

A variety of diseases can cause nausea and vomiting.  Examples (this is not a complete list) include gastroenteritis, food poisoning, acute non-gastrointestial infections (i.e. pneumonia, pyelonephritis), obstruction of the stomach, small bowel or colon, liver or gall bladder disease, pancreatic disease, peptic disease or cancer.

You are experiencing nausea and vomiting associated with meals, flu-like symptoms, and chills.  Infections causes such as acute gastroenteritis or a non-GI infection should be considered and evaluated for.

Another consideration would be bowel obstruction.  The most common symptoms of bowel obstruction are abdominal distention, vomiting, crampy abdominal pain, and inability to pass flatus.

In any case, you need to be evaluated by a physician.  At a minimum, proper xrays to evaluate for bowel obstruction, and blood tests for gall bladder, pancreas and liver should be performed.

If everything comes up negative, you then may want to be evaluated for more uncommon causes such as delayed gastric emptying or gastroparesis.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.

Thanks,
Kevin, M.D.
