Chest pain...

I was diagnosed with hiatal hernia recently. Now I have occasional chest pain. I have never had heartburn, but I understand that a burning feeling is what it feels like. The chest pain I feel is in the centre of my chest and centre of my back. I am only 32 so I know it can't be my heart! I am 110lbs, and I don't smoke. I have been seeing an internal specialist for pain on my right side under my rib that radiates to my back just behind it. He diagnosed me with IBS because he could not find the cause of the pain on my right side.
Should I be concerned with the chest pain? Should I go to my doctor?? I really don't want to go to my doctor because I have been through so many test already for the pain on my right side.
Any suggestions on if the chest pain is from the hernia? if so what does that mean? what is your recommendations?

In Sept of 2000 I began to feel nausea and heartburn on a daily basis sometimes worse throughout the day. I thought at first I was pregnant.  Two Months later when I was obviosly not, I started getting chest pains and my left side would ache and go numb.  I went to my doctor for 6 months @ every 10 days, he could not figure it out.  I was told I had everything from asthma to depression. Needless to say I know my own body(and before this was very healthy) and finally switched doctors. I had gotton some suggestions and was diagnosed with gallbladder disease about 3 visits after switching doctors.  I had it removed in April of this year, but I was still feeling pain.  I went back and was recently diagnosed with a hiatal hernia.  To get to this point I have been through I don't know how many tests and meds, even went to a cardiologist (with my old doc because of the left side) my heart is fine, and all of my other tests have come back normal.  I have been on Prevacid, Protonix and Prilosec (two in the morn, and 2 Zantac 75 at night) Nothing works for my heartburn.  I am going to see a GI doc this Fri the 21, but I am really interested in talking more and seeing if we have other similar symptoms. My email is ***@**** God Bless you and I hope to hear from you soon.

first i am sorry you are ill .and pray your health problems will soon be diagnosed . the reason for this reply is that before i was diagnosed with severe and extensive diverticulitis the doctors kept saying it was ibs .and you are correct they normaly throw that ibs around when they have failed to find the real problem ,(and of no suprise) women are the higest diagnosed with ibs syndrome.we must be careful not to accept this diagnoses to willingly . because more times than not there are more serious health problems that ibs has been known to mimic .i am now schedualed for a major colon resection surgery on 9-20-01 not to mention they also have diagnosed me with cirrhosis of the liver and they will take a biopsy of my liver when they do the colon surgery ,and said they will no doubt remove the appendix also which they believe to be dammaged, and all scar tisue they can safely remove,  not to mention the other serious medical problems i have .  i was infected with hep-c through one of my other surgeries wich has caused my liver and digestive problems so i sugest if a doctor fails to diagnose, be true to yourself and no matter how many doctors you must go through to be properly diagnosed keep pushing foward until your questions are answered.doctors have a way of looking at women as over reacting to our health problems, which in most cases have proven them to be  wrong . in turn causing a lot of uncalled for misdiagnosed women and uncalled for suffering of .best of luck to you both and i hope you are diagnosed soon.

wow...I thought I was the only one with that pain in the the rib area and into the back. I also still get the chest pain you are describing. If you have had a chance to read my other posts, you know that I have had my gallbladder removed and this was about 6 weeks ago.  Thought maybe it was a mistake afterward and still because of the continued pain.  The path said that the gb was chronically inflamed and not emptying. So...I guess it needed to be removed, but what now.
I have also gone to a gastro doctor and he really didn't seem to listen.  And like you, he pretty much said that it is IBS.  My irritation is now more because I didn't have IBS before the surgery.  Unless the surgery causes you to have IBS, then that is not what is going on with me.  Why would these pains mean IBS anyway.  Maybe a blocked duct, but IBS?????
I guess they will wait until I turned jaundiced to do something.
Hope you find something out and if so please share!

Thanks
