Cronic constipation

As of late last summer, I've been having chronic constipation. As far as I am aware of, I've never been this constipated in my life. I am a vegetarian, and have looked up many things about this on the net. I get enough fiber in my diet, I exercise for about an hour a day, I drink more the recommended amount of water. But still am unable to make bowel movements. I've tried Pysillium Seed Husk, which worked for a few days, but the effect has seemed to have warn off. I've tried just about everything and anything. So, then my question would be why can't I go #2?

i have been diagnosed with colonic inertia and severe motility problems.  i haven't been able to have a bowel movement without taking stimulant laxatives for 9 years.  i have tried miralax, fibers, citricil, propulsid (years ago), enemas, suppositories, collace, complete change in diet, you name it.  i have had colonoscopy and barium enema (normal).

they tell me surgery (to remove parts of my intestines) or continued laxatives.  this is a horrible problem, especially b/c i want to get pregnant (and hear that stimulant laxatives are very dangerous)....

if anyone has any information or success stories, please share!

When I changed my diet for the better (lots of brown rice, oatmeal and veggies) I became constipated!  I couldn't believe it!  Anyway, there is an herbal tea at the grocery store called "Smooth Move" which works.
