There are NO test to determine if you have adhesions. You must have the laproscopic or open exploratory surgery to know 100% that it is adhesions. Go to http://www.adhesions.org and you will learn all about adhesions and how to get treatment for them. My intestines are all pulled to the left from adhesions and they are going to remove them as soon as I decide I can't take the pain anymore or my intestines become blocked. Good luck to you and try this site. David Wiseman PH.D founded the International Adhesions Society and he will help you find the answers you seek.
There is a society for adhesions sufferers--if anyone is interested, let me know and I will give you the web-site. I had 8 surgeries in 13 months and I know all about adhesions.
Did not know why I was in so much pain, but finally got the answer. Was not what I wanted to hear. My small intestines are all pulled to my left side from adhesions. There are no test, x-rays, ct, mri or ultra sound to show adhesions. you must go have a laproscope done--found that out from a Dr. in New York who specializes in the removal, so they are not likely to recur. It's very interesting and anyone who has had alot of surgeries, should read about it. My surgeon is hesitant to do the surgery right now. So I have to suffer for a little while longer.
A related discussion,
pain after pain was started.
I also am tired of having tests after tests. On april 8 had a cycst removed but during surgery they had to reroute my bowel.
Then on april 28 was taking back to the er and was admitted for illus or something like that. Well after getting a central line in my neck the did daily xrays, and upper abdominal series and the several other ones they determined I had a small bowel obstruction. I was beging to think it was in my head. Finaly on may 10 they did a 6 hour surgery remove 8 inches of my small insteine. was realeased on may 23 was readmitted the 25 for blood in stool and staff infection and ecoli. I was realeased on may 31. I to am terfied of this happing again I already have rhuemthoid arthrits any help would be great I just want to feel myself again.

what was the test that you had to confirm adhesions? im sick of getting upper gi, and small bowel sereis, ultrasound and catscan, then lap, i would like to know first confirming test, rather than always go through these test. I also have problems with right sided ovarian cysts, constantly, and have had a carcinoid tumor removed from my rectum. just looking for one simple fast tell tale test that will say ok, hey its bowel obstruction again, versues other things that i have had. if you remember conclusive test please let me know, thank you!
I too suffered from intestinal adhesions from surgery. Last May I had a laproscopic hsytorectomy and within one week was back in the hospital. I could not keep any food down or fluids. A test confirmed a bowel obstruction. Went in for sugery to release the obstruction that was caused from a portion of the bowel adhering to the incision site. 9 months later rushed to ER with severe adominal pain. Cat scan reveal yet another obstruction due to adhesions. I too have been afraid of this happining again. On top of all of this, I do suffer from ulcerative colitis! I love salads and veggies, I do eat them but limit my intake. When I feel my abdomin becoming somewhat distended, I stop eating them for a few days and just eat chicken or pork with some pasta. Stay away from soda! That helped me alot.
Hi,
I was just hospitalized in January with adhesions, my bowel was attatched with adhesions. I was rushed to E.R. with symptoms of ruptured appendix, or ruptured ovarian cyst. Had another lap. which showed the bowel adhesions, they were removed, but here it is only 2 months and a few days after surgery and i have the same pain again. i have had several laps for ovarian cysts, tubual ligation, ( thus the adhesions) and they found a carcinoid tumor in my rectum. I do not eat any raw fruit, salad or vegetables anymore, i feel in doing that it has eased my pain and bloating somewhat. Its an experiment I am trying, and feel somewhat better doing it, I eat only cooked vegetables, which is hard for me, I loved salads and veggies and dip, but I did notice a big improvement, as far as fruit goes I only have like applesauce, orange juice, etc. nothing with any roughage at all. I wish you well. I also noticed, corn, peas, any kind of roughage in vegetables, also were causing blockages.
