I've been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia

I don't know whether to believe the diagnosis. Has anyone else been diagnosed with this disorder? I know it causes stomach problems along with a multitude of other problems. I'm going for a second opinion.

Thanks,
Abbey

Hello-  I have a similar situation.  A few years ago, after having an endometrial ablation for endometriosis, I became very ill.  Mostly, I was very weak and would almost fall.  I would try to do my hair and would have to stop because my muscles would 'give out.'  To make a long story short, I went to several specialists.  After many tests and over one year, they finally labeled me with "Fibromyalgia."  I have mixed feelings about this.  Some people believe that this exists, and others do not.  I am still undecided.  I have severely painful muscles.  Arthritis with nodes at base of thumbs and a lot of pain and stiffness.  MAJOR GI problems.  Chronic Constipation.  Terrible cramping.  Had a colonoscopy.  Reported to be normal except that my sigmoid colon was very tight and had excessive mucus in rectum.  IBS???  Abnormal lab results are:  Sed Rate-  Has been high for about 5 years (around 50)  C-Reactive Protein has been high for over 2 years (2.8 was latest)  Alkaline Phos is always high (Last was 125)  and ASO titer was high at 92.  All have to do with inflammation (Not Fibromyalgia)  So... I know your frustrations.  I think Firbomyalgia is a term given to people with a diagnosis that cannot be determined.  I don't always think it is the culprit.  Good luck to you.  If you find any new information, pass it along.  Thanks

I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia in 1997 about a year after a car accident.  Trama is another possible way to "activate" FMS.  I, like you didn't believe it.  I have since came to now it very well.  I have all the symptoms that are typical of FMS.  I went from being depressed to mad, angry at myself, hopeless. Luckly I had a good doctor in the beginning and still see the same one today.  I think that you need to research FMS for yourself.  It will help you feel more in control.  Also, find out what your triggers are and control those situations.  For example, I know that if I am going to travel by car for any distance that I must take some sort of anti-inflammatory.  I know that I have to keep my neck and shoulders warm or that will trigger pain all over my body.  I can't garden or fly fish any more and if I do I know that I will be out of circulation for 3 days. Start searching for what works for you and how you will cope because as I have come to realize no two FMS patients have the same symptoms/relief.

Best of Luck to you on this part of your Journey.

Hi,
My mother has this too. I want to tell you it is painful when it progresses throughout the body. My mom cannot sleep at night because her body aches. She went through a horrible depression. Please exercise, and eat fruits and vegtables. Think about herbs or other forms of ways to help with the symptoms. I do not want you to become like my mom did, and go into a depression like she did. It was terrible.
There will be times that it will be difficult to cope with. Reach out for help. There is not a lot of information out there, but I do suggest you do research on it, so you can care for yourself the best you can. You can live normally once you have adapted to the changes. Feel free to email me anytime. I will ask my mom anything you want to know.

Fibromyalgia is triggered by infections that can negate the immune system so called

Yep,that sounds ike my moms symptoms. Most nights she can't even get a full nights sleep because her legs hurt so bad! She was diagnosed about 6 years ago and at first, her doc tried antidepresants and sleeping aids and things but nothing worked. She doesn't have a doc right now, in between jobs and insurance, but I know when she exercises regularly, it does help her.

My pleasure Abbey , the main thing is you now know your problem! That allows you to research & treat!!! Most with the condition have no clue as to the cause. If you need any more info post ,  thousands have found the cure.
Good luck

Thank you so much for the website. I'll definitely read it. I'm still in denial about my condition and am quite depressed. I'm working my way out of it though. Thanks again.
