Mucus

elb
I have been having mucus discharge from my rectum with no stool present.  I have seen my doctor and no one can seem to find out the problem.  I have had a colonoscopy, sigmoid, and a barrium enema done with negative findings appx. one year ago.  I have used over the counter laxatives which has help me with a movement.  I also have a prescription laxative as well.  I feel since I have used the laxatives only 3 times, I am unable to have a movement.  I am not schedule to see the Gastroenterologist until October.  I am concern that the problem may be something else and it is being overlook.  Please help me with question to ask or suggestions to help until my appointment.  Thank you very much ELB

It sounds alot like Irritable Bowel Syndrome.  If you have pain in the abdominal area along with gas, it is quite likely this is your problem. Rather than taking laxatives, it may be wise to try fibre therapy, such as metamucil.  If you do have IBS, there is a new medication out for IBS with predominant Constipation called Zelnorm.  It is very expensive, but most plans cover it.  I hope you get some answers soon.
