Post Nissen Complication?????

I was the recepient of a Nissen in 1999.  One year later, after doing very heavy lifting my stomach literally felt like it had ripped in half.  I have since had pain radiating from my stomach area (under sternum) that goes straight through my back between my spine and left shoulder blade.  I have had 2 egd's, doc said wrap appears to be a "little loose" too numerous, to count gallbladder tests (all normal), have been tested for every imaginable tumor -all negative, stress test (normal), tilt table study (normal).  I then went to a different clinic and has anyone ever heard of the wrap being too high??? This guy is ordering a simple barium swallow to see where the wrap is in comparison to my diaphram.  He feels that the wrap may have slipped through the hernia repair and up.  Does anyone out there have any information on this????  I have been searching-searching-searching.

I had mine done in April 2000.  I still have terrible chest pain through the esophagus.  I can't swallow certain foods and the food seems to get "stuck".  I feel like I'm having a heart attack all the time.  There was an article in our local paper in May that said that research has shown that stomach surgery is being related to heart disease 10 years after the surgery.  I have since tried to find this article to take to my doc but have been unable to find it.  Did anyone else see this article about May 16th or 17th, 2001?

Have you had an esophageal manometry done??????  That would be the first clue for the wrap being too tight.  If you are having an endoscope done to see if things are too tight, you might be getting mislead. The doc may be looking to see if you are still refluxing--evidenced by redness, scarring etc in the esophagus but that is ALL he will be able to tell.(Been through all this.)
Please feel free to contact me at ***@**** with any questions.  I will be more than willing to give you all info I have on the Nissen.

Hi, I read your message. I had the Nissen wrap done almost 3 months ago and have been miserable ever since. I have the same pain but mine comes on after I eat. Food goes down fine but after about 15 min I have pain in my stomach thru to my back. I have to lay down it's the only thing that helps. I went back to my dr. with these complaints and had a ultrasound done and he seen gallstones. I had that removed 6 weeks ago and still have the same pain. I have to go tomorrow to have another endoscopy done hopefully they will find out something. I am tired of being in pain. The Dr. had mentioned to me that if the wrap was to tight or placed in the wrong position it could cause complications. Did you have any weird side effects after your surgery ? I have even had heartburn since they took out my gallbladder. Do you know anyone else that's had problems?
