Questran and IBS

My doctor gave me this for IBS.  I am not sure if I am suppose to take it everyday or not.  I have diarrhea everyday.  Is this suppose to help or will anything help?  Is there anything new out today for treating Irritable Bowel Syndrome?  I have been dealing with this since I was a child and I am now 39.

Hi!!  I have  suggestion.  I am 19 years old and I have the same symptoms that you do and so do some other people in my family.  Mine all started when I had my gall bladder out.  They kept telling me that I had irritable bowel syndrome but I had something else.  It is called Celiac Disease and 9 out of 10 times IBS is misdiagnosed.  All I takes is a blood test for the antibodies to see if you have it or not.  It usually only occurs in infant and in older people but like I said I am only 19 and I have it so i can happend to anyone.  What it is is a wheat allergy to the point that when you eat wheat it damages your intestines which cause a lot of problems.  This is no cure for it but you have to get off of anything that has wheat in it.  They let mine go for 3 years and I finally read an article and insited that i be tested even though it is not usual at my age and sure enough it was.  I have been off of alot of the wheat for about a month now and feel 90 percent better.  It is so amazing at the difference that I have seen.  Please go get checked for it because if left untreated it can cause cancer and you dont want that.  Please email back on what you find out and spread the word to anyone else.  Thanks

please do the BREATH Test for h. pylori and if they do say you have it, you need 4 weeks treatment!

i wished i had a answer for you but i don't i also have been diagnosed with ibs and fibroidmyalgia , to complicate maters i had diverticulitis  which i just had colon surgery for. there is no medication for ibs. they had lotronex on the market which killed many people (mostly women because that is who it afects most ) also keep in mind do not take this drug if you have ibs.due to the the fact that constipation is one of the more serious complications of ibs, lotronex is not recomended for ibs patients  .it should have never been perscribed to ibs patient who had alternating  bowel habits.i have a site for you though it may not be of great use,but it may be something you want to consider .it has been found that crohns disease and ibs are linked. you need to ask your gastro/digestive doctor to check  for crohns disease .also a colonoscopy is a good idea because a lot of more serious conditions are missed because doctors fall back on ibs instead of serching for the more serious digestive conditions .(which is what happened to me )the colonoscopy is one of the most highly recomended test because it finds digestive problems that other test have been known to miss.here is the site i was refering to  wwww.crohnspharmacist.com keep scrolling down and you will find the info you need on ibs and crohns .god bless and i wish you well.

Questran is prescribed for people with chronic diarhea.  I had my gallbladder removed this past April.  I continue to have loose stools.  The surgeon prescribed this for me but I've never had the prescription filled.  The reason why I've not had it filled is because although I have several bouts of loose stools in a weeks time, I also have some normal ones.  I'm afraid taking this will make me constipated.  Anyway, hope this info helps.
