Sulfur / Rotten Egg Burps, followed by throwing up

For the last 4 months I have had the same problem.  I get a burp that smells like sulfur or rotten eggs.  When I get this I know shortly, within an hour, I will be throwing up for the next couple of hours.  This sometimes lasts for a couple of days.  I also have bad, gas and runny stools.  If its not coming out one end, its coming out the other.

Is it something I've eaten that is bad, or am I suseptable to food poisoning because I've had it before?

Can you help me?  I would like to know what is wrong with me so I can take the necessary precautions to avoid feeling this way.

Also, is there anything I can take to keep me from getting sick when I know it's coming?  Or at least make me feel better.

Looking forward to hearing from someone soon.  I you cannot help me, maybe you can suggest, or point me in the right direction.

Sincerely, Mark (Collinsdad)

I am haveing a similar problem at this time. I am haveing the most replusive and embarassing "sulfer burps", so bad that I had to call into work today. I can't very well go in to work burping sulfer and try to blame it on co-workers. (HA HA that only works for so long) Although I share the same nasty burps you do, I do not have the vomiting accompanying it, nor do I have any other ill effects. This has happened to me once before, and only lasted a day or two. I am looking into causes and remedies for this problem, and will post any if I can find them. If anyone has any explaination for this, please help! Until then, I'm just going to keep a can of air freshener near-by for the next day or so.

I hope I can help with your dilema. I was diagnosed with a duodenal ulcer and the symptoms were exactly the same. The smell is awful to say the least. Not drinking, smoking, eating lots of red meat and no stress help alot. Not to say I do not do all the above. Get you local Doctor to do an x-ray and you will probably find an ulcer. Good luck.Hope I helped.

I wanted to let you know that I am experiencing the same thing today EXCEPT there is no throwing up - just severe diarrhea and stomach/abdominal cramps (along with those nasty sulfur burps).  What I have may possibly be giardiasis, a single cell parasite that lives in feces.  Contaminated drinking water is the major cause of this.

What I wanted to say was, 23 years ago I lived in Arizona and had the same problem.  Every month for a couple of days, I would begin by burping sulfur and from that point on it was from both ends and extremely debilatating.

It was written off as a symptom of something called "Valley Fever" - a respiratory infection common to that area of the Southwest.  I have done no research on Valley Fever, but it may be a starting point for you.

Let me know what you find out - I can be reached at John_Mouton***@****.

Take it easy and sorry, man.

John

I feel like crying, I am so happy to see someone else with my problem!  I have had the problem since high school (I'm 25 now).  I will feel perfectly fine, and then all of a sudden I will burp, and it tastes exactly like rotten eggs.  I, too will start throwing up within an hour or two.  I will continue to vomit until there is nothing left (both ends), and then I'm fine.  This used to happen at least once a month, sometimes more.  I started taking a tagament every night at bedtime, and then I also started taking fiber (or anything to regulate bowel movements) and I went two years without a problem.  Now this problem is happening again.  I hate it!  I have also noticed that it happens after I have been nervous or stressed about something.  I am going to see a doctor this week.  I will definitely post whatever info I find out.  I feel your pain, belive me!

Hello again. I also wanted to ask if your vomit is really horrible too?  Mine is really acidy (and smells like rotten eggs).  There have been a few times that as soon as I burped and knew I would start throwing up, I took a tagament and a fibercon and went straight to bed, slept the whole day, and it was gone when I woke up.  It doesn't work every time, but it has helped.  Also, when you get upset or stressed, does your stomach get all knotty?  I noticed mine does, I totally put my stress in my stomach, and I wonder if this contributes to my problem.

I just wanted to say that I will get to the bottom of this if it kills me.  I don't care how many tests I need or how much it costs.  I will let you know as soon as I find anything out.

Wish me luck!

Shannon

Okay, I've seen a doctor, who wasn't very concerned.  I'm seeking a 2nd opinion.  But look up "giardiasis".  The symptoms of this are diarrhea, gas, nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramping, and SULFUR-TASTING BURPS.  I made an appointment to be tested for this disease.  Maybe you should too.

Well, I rec'd a call that I tested positive for "H-pylori bacterial infection."  I have to take three different medications twice a day for a month to get rid of it. I'm not sure if that is the problem, but maybe you should check it out.

My fiance suffered from severe egg burps, headache, and vomiting, doctors couldn't figure out what was causing it.  We kept a log of the foods that he had ate that and it turned out to be an allergy to Sesame oil and seasame seed, they are in terriyaki sauce, on top of some mc donalds burgers, on rolls, and very often in chinese food and sushi.  I would suggest to anyone suffering from similar symptoms to keep a food diary and than ask your doctor to order some food allergy testing with ones you suspect or just avoid the foods.  He's had no more egg burps since (thank goodness!)  Good luck!

Hello all my Egg Burping friends.  I have suffered from the "Rotten Egg Burps" for as long as I can remember.  My mom had them also and there has always seemed to be nothing you can do but bare it... My body has gotten so used to it that while sleeping it will hold in the burps until no more can be stopped. I then wake up knowing that with the first burp will come vomitting.  I hurry to the bathroom and usually end up dry heaving to the point of breaking blood vessels in my face... For the first time I am researching this on the Internet tonight for this is the first time I have had them 2 nights in a row... I recommend google and typing in "rotten egg burps" We are not alone... Tonight I am trying to stop them rather than baring them... I have taken baking soda and eaten pepto bismol tablets... Wish me luck...
