Sulphuric/ Eggy burps and stomach cramps

Hello!
I have had an extensive workup for stomach pain 2 months ago.  Had my gallbladder removed in 1999.  My pancreas/stomach CT scan was negative. Gastric emptying scan showed slightly slow motility. Upper GI showed some "narrowing" of the pylorus, but no other pathology.  I have been on prilosec BID for 3 years, for GERD, and lipitor for cholesterol. However, I get bouts of severe stomach distress that presents as eggy, foul-tasting burping, then stomach cramping, bloating and nausea.  It is pretty debilitating for a whole day, and makes me feel horrible. Bentyl doesn't help much, nor does Gaviscon. Does anyone have an idea what is causing this?? Is it the pylorus, or lactose intolerance...something totally different that my doctor and I are missing?  I'd appreciate some input on this, as I actually am missing work because of it.  Thanks so much!    Kim

Hello everyone x. Thank you all for making me see I'm not alone with the eggy burps! last year I had a liver transplant and when you have one of  these they always put the new liver in minus the gall bladder. At least two of you have had gall bladder issues or even operations which is why I'm saying hi now. I will contact my doctors and try to get an answer for us all. If they don't know right away they won't get back to me until they dofind out something x x.

I'm not a docter but I do have the Sam semptiomes and this is what I have to offer in way of help. If you in agamising pain go to the ER and get a full work up. If its just the burps drink mint tea or lots of water don't eat before you go to. Sleep and if you need to vomit do so but after drink water. It could be a lot of things that code this.a few that I have found are infection. Witch I went through. Food poisaning. Or something simaler. And in what I think is most cases. Undigested food in your stoumic. If I recall some Heath and sciences when your body is at rest I'd digests slower in oder to save energy?  Sorry guessing there. But anyway I woulsdent use rumba or antacids it may just be undigesed food. So water or mint tea and don't sleep after eating any big meals.

Sorry to keep posting but there just has to be an answer! On another forum, someone suggested cillantro as the problem. As this is found in most salsa (what I think either makes or breaks a salsa) and when I was first pregnant, first found my taste for salsa, could be it. When I was pregnant (and the first time this ever happened to me) I craved salsa and milk. I ate Mexican almost every day and drank a gallon of milk EVERY day. I now cook with fresh cilantro as it is addictive to me. I will deffinately cut out cillantro. When I say I eat Mexican, I usually do just eat a lot of chips and salsa and just a few bites of my meal.

I also want to state the nausea has to come from the smell/taste that we just endure for so long. I don't normally have a lot of butler but when this is going on, they are almost constant it seems. (again probally bc of the cokes I drink) Another thing. I only have either vomiting or diarrhea the day after the burps and this is always the end of that bout. The diarrhea looks like it is boiling or something with foam. I have no idea the cause, but do know I would do anything to stop them!

I also suffer from these HORRIBLE burps, and always followed with diarrhea and churning stomach. A few times vomiting. One in particular vomiting that was very thick and looked like coffee grounds. Never had I had such thick consistancy in all my life. The first time I ever had these burps, I was pregnant with my first child. The problem has continued off and on. While I do drink way too much soda and stress too easily, I don't see any connection with foods that trigger this. I too went to the Dr when it first happened and several tests were done, and all negative. My take on it all is, it happens when I eat too much at one sitting (the day before). I think maybe there is too much food in my stomach to be broken down or something like that. The valve not working right may be the answer as well. Maybe the bloating feeling I get makes me feel like I ate too much. Maybe when I'm stressed I eat more and this happens. Maybe the valve doesn't work right. I will try cuting out cokes and limit my food intake (even when stressed). Everyone has stress, that's apart of life, and don't have this problem. So I will work on eliminating stress but not as a fix for this problem. As for the people who have a problem with a long post, please do as my mother taught me, if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all. I promise MANY people including myself have gotten a lot out of what Jody has to offer. Please do not discourage people who have useful information that can help so many people. (You know the reason for forums just like this)

I am currently in the middle of a nasty episode myself, first presented in me about 8 years ago in the fiercest episode I have ever had! The sucky thing is that its so random, I never know when a new Episode will strike however I will say that the "egg burps" are my first warning that within 7-12 hours I will be getting severe stomach cramping and churning followed by severe diarrhea and headache! Of course this always happens at the most inconvenient times! I appreciate all the information you gave JODY and furthermore appreciate the creative way in which you presented it! I found that I could relate to so much of what you were saying! Im not sure what my next plan of action is thus far I think Dr.s are quacks with a LARGE student loan!! Good to know Im not alone and I welcome correspondance to liz30355 AT gmail *******

I have been very sick with nausea, noticed intense amount of burping that reminded me of the taste and smell of egg, with an onset of projectile vomiting. I was surprised to see so many others were having the same issues. I looked back on what I had been eating, which did not include eggs. I had been eating a lot of fiber bars that have whole grains, nuts and dried fruit. I also noticed on the labels/packaging that there was a common preservative called "Sulfur Dioxide". I believe that this bought of being extremely sick for the past few days was brought on by too much of these foods containing this preservative. Just thought I would share with the rest of you who are going through so much with debilatating gastric issues, if there is any chance this could also be a problem for you.

Kim, you are so right. Jody does have need of a good psychiatrist. How can Kim know that? How do I know that? You don't need a medical degree, just simple observation and common sense. Jody's posts are incredibly long, rambling, dramatic, crammed with all kinds of unnecessary details and an obsession with every symptom. What her case boils down to is this: Jody sometimes eats an unhealthy, acidic diet, washed down by super-acidic (junk food) soda pop. She is melodramatic in her reactions to the ups and downs of adult life - and she enjoys the attention she gets for dramatizing her stress. So...even though this "over-acting" on every emotion is actually causing her digestive problems...she won't calm down and allow herself to heal. Jody, why not save thousands of $ in medical treatment, and try a meditation or yoga class? Continue eating lots of fresh fruit and veggies, drink plenty of water, lay off the Pepsi. Take a few slow, deep breaths when you feel stress or pain. Stop focussing on your physical symptoms and please get some help for the underlying psychological problem.

I'm so relieved I'm not the only one with this problem.  I've been experiencing all the symptoms noted above for the past twenty years.
Didn't get worse or better after my gall bladder removal.  I've been overseas while I was in the military and caught a parasite ( laid in bed for a whole month) while wining and dining with the locals.  I've had 3 episodes this month so far.  I'm wide awake tonight suffering.  It seems it comes on when I'm suffering stress.  I also have PTSD. My doctor would prescribe adult diapers. It is very debilitating and it makes me feel unattractive especially since I'm single.  Too embarrassing to go on dates. One day at work, our human resource manager was going to call a repairman to check our furnace because it smelled so bad in our building. And while I was staying in the hospital for another health issue, I cleared out two rooms because the smell was so bad. I finally got a room to myself after that but, I can't seem to get an answer from my doctor.  I feel this is ruining my life as far as any social life!

I have these eggy burps and it's sometimes turns into diareah. I take colifac and that stops it. Also for the egg burps I take peppermint capsules and it takes the smell away. Mine is a form of IBS and starts when I'm stressed. Hope this helps
