Hi. Thanks for the info on the diet. I am sorry but somehow I missed your post, I guess I thought that I read it already. DGL is deglycyrrhizinated licorice that comes in a chewable tablet form. It has totally helped me. I have only had pain once since I started using it. I take it at the first onset of pain and the pain goes away. Look at the concerned lady post on 3/13/02. Is under a post from Jimmy Hurts on 3/12/02. She cut & paste some really good info there. I will check out that website you mentioned and thanks again. Take care!

DEAR FEELBETTER,

THE "HALLELUJAH DIET" CAN BE FOUND ON THEIR WEBSITE IS www.hacres.com AND IT'S BASICALLY A VEGETARIAN DIET,WITH NO DAIRY PRODUCTS,NO CAFFEINE, NO SUGAR OR EGGS, NO CANNED FOOD ETC, AND LOTS OF CARROT JUICE!!! THE MORE LONGER YOU'VE BEEN ILL, THE LONGER IT TAKES, BUT LET ME ASSURE YOU, YOU WILL FEEL LIKE A NEW PERSON BEGINNING THE FIRST WEEK! I HAVE HAD 12 ABDOMINAL SURGERIES AND HAVE BEEN GOING TO THE E.R. 2 TO 3 TIMES A WEEK. BEEN ON THIS DIET FOR 8 WEEKS AND HAVE NOT BEEN TO THE E.R. ONCE! IN TWO WEEKS, WE'LL BE STARTING AN ADVANCED CLASS. WHEN I AM COMPLETELY HEALED, I WILL GO UP TO HALLELUJAH ACRES AND GET TRAINED, SO I CAN START HELPING OTHERS VIA HEALTH CLASSES, SUPPORT CLASSES AND THROUGH THE WEB!  THE WEEK BEFORE I STARTED THIS DIET, THE SURGEONS TOLD ME THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO TO HELP ME; I WAS DEVASTATED! I KNOW THIS IS THE ANSWER! YOU'VE GOT TO CHECK INTO THIS! WE HAVE DRS. AND NURSES FROM THE MEDICAL CENTER WHO ARE ASTONISHED AT THE HEALING THAT IS GOING ON HERE, AND WHO ARE VERY INTERESTED IN THIS PROGRAM, AS WELL AS PEOPLE FROM ALL WALKS OF LIFE! IT SEEMS THE PEOPLE WHO ARE THE MOST ILL AND THE MOST DESPERATE, STICK WITH THIS NEW WAY OF EATING, BUT WHO ALSO GET HEALED! IT'S ALMOST TOO GOOD TO BELIEVE TIL I SEE AND TALK WITH PEOPLE WHO HAVE BEEN HELPED!

GOOD LUCK, AND BY THE WAY WHAT IS DGL? BEEN ALL OVER THIS FORUM AND CAN'T FIND IT? PLEASE LET ME KNOW SOON AND THANKS SO MUCH!!!

What does that diet involve? Is it too long to explain here or can you put up a website address so anyone that is interested can check it out? This is one that I have not yet heard of. Thanks and speedy healing to all.

hey everyone!

thank you, thank you, thank you!!! i thought i was the only one with this strange congestion...phlem or mucuous constantly in my throat, dry mouth and throat, congested dry nose one minute, runny the next, some days hardly noticeable, then the next few days terrible nose and throat congestion, feeling of choking especially after eating or drinking something, etc. also had every g.i. work-up only thing found was hiatal hernia and diverticulitis; doctors acting like i'm making this up...

thanks for sharing! during the times i'm so congested, especially the phlemn in my throat, i get panicked, which makes the symptoms worse, thanks for calming me down. i also read on the internet that ginger is a cure, some dr. even wrote a book about this and how to do it; will have to look that up and see what exactly you're supposed to do...will try drinking the water in the morning and doing the "jump-up" method.

one question...mine came on suddenly during a cold this christmas, did this happen to anyone else?

also, i started on the "hallelujah diet" at my church 8 weeks ago. according to many, many testimonies throughout the united states, this diet has "cured" their hiatal hernias, congestion in the throat, and severe sinus infections; got to admit, after the first week, at least i can sleep through the night without a stuffy nose and without spitting up mucuous all night; i understand if i stay on this diet i'll get cured; so i'm going on this 100 percent and have alot of support on this program.

everyone keep in touch and let's support each other and anyone else who comes aboard! and thanks again for everything!!!

Hi! I was just at a healthfood store this past weekend and the guy there told me to do that same excercise. He showed me how to do it and made me try it right there in the store in front of everyone. He sais he was 75 years old and knew what he was talking about. Severe pain was my main symptom of reflux too. I also felt stuffy quite often. I never actually had heartburn and doubted the diagnosis even after having the endoscopy done. Because of this forum I now understand a lot more about reflux and GERD and it can give you a whole host of problems. I am chewing DGL tablets before meals and/or at the onset of any pain and I have not had an "attack" in about 4 weeks. See a concerned lady post for more info on some "natural" remedies to try. I wish everyone all the best!

I have been diagnosed with GERD for years but the motility test did not bear this diagnosis out.  My symptoms are unusual in that I have intense "throat"pain (don't know if it tracheal or esophageal) when lying flat of my back.  I cah turn a few degrees left or right and the pain subsides. Also have been plagued with a dull pain to the right of my sternum for months now.  Had all the tests...CT, GI, chest X-ray, on and on. Nothing! Yet this pain radiates up my throat and is especially bad after exercise.  Anyone out there have any symptoms like this?

Hey I am not sure what the difference is between the sliding hiatus hernia and the hiatal hernia, but I have been going to different Dr.s for months trying to figure out why I have a hard time breathing, swallowing, and feeling sick. They did the upper GI and found a hiatal hernia. I feel like I have been on every web page trying to find out what you can do for this!! I did find one that has given me some relief , it sounds really stupid but it did seem to help. First thing in the morning on an empty stomach you drink a big glass of warm water fast then you stand as high on your toes as you can and drop to your heels. Tell me that doesn't sound stupid! I guess the water puts weight in your stomach and by giving a little force with your weight it pulls the hernia right back down into place. Does anyone know if a hernia can affect your thyroid?

Hi again Steve.  I hear what you are saying...I have and had the feeling of being congested, etc. and thought maybe it was allergies.  I even had my family doctor make an appointment with an allergist for me last month and I went through the allergy tests and asthma tests (I was even thinking it was asthma because of the way my chest felt and how it affected my breathing) but all my tests for these things were negative.  I know too what you mean about having to change diets... I think sometimes the highlight of my day was that first cup of morning coffee. And, I like chocolate, fried food, and spicy, tomatoey foods.   But, I'm trying.  Good luck to you.  This IS a great forum, isn't it??          needabreak

Hi,

Thanks for the comments and advice.

I seem to have it lightly compared to some of you folks, I only get the congestion and no other real pain or problems.

I live in the UK and have had all the usual test undertaken here including  barium  & enderscope. My concern was that on reading general articles on the Net congestion / phlegm problems weren

THE TESTS FOR THESE G.I.PROBLEMS ARE BRUTAL, BUT IF THEY GIVE YOU ANSWERS THEN THEY ARE WORTH IT. I JUST HAD THE 24HR. PH/MOTILITY TEST WHICH IS THE GOLD STANDARD TEST FOR ACID REFLUX. THE TUBE GOES IN YOUR NOSE INTO YOUR STOMACH AND STAYS THERE FOR 24 HOURS. NOT PLEASANT, BUT THEN AGAIN, NEITHER ARE ALL THESE MISERABLE SYMPTOMS. KNOW EXACTLY WHAT YOU MEAN ABOUT GOOD AND BAD DAYS. TODAY I FEEL OKAY, BUT YESTERDAY I FELT LIKE ROADKILL. SAME ROUTINE, NO AGGRIVATING FOODS, ETC.  JUST DOES NOT MAKE ANY SENSE BUT IT REALLY STINKS. I AM JUST SO TIRED OF NOT KNOWING WHICH DAYS ARE GOING TO BE GOOD AND WHICH ARE GOING TO BE BAD. GOOD LUCK TO YOU.

Oh. My. Gosh.  Let me tell you... This also puzzled me because I hardly ever experienced heartburn either.  Then all of a sudden about 4 months ago I developed a DRY throat, but always at night.  I also have some sinus drainage, etc. but this concerned me more when it never went away, but then I developed coughing, clearing my throat, choking sensations, chest pain, something felt like it was stuck in the base of my throat, etc.  I had a hard time believing I had GERD, because I didn't have the heartburn.  I am taking Prevacid (which I'm still not sure it's working, but it's only been a couple of weeks)15 mg. once a day.  We also elevated the head of the bed about 5 in. (which is weird, too.)  I just about 2 weeks ago, also started getting the burning sensation up into my throat during the night.  I'm now drinking a little aloe juice and plan on trying the DGL, which you may have read about elsewhere on this forum.  It has to get better...I still haven't had the scope down my throat test, but it is starting to look pretty good compared to this and the not knowing exactly what I have.  Did you have the test done?  You know, some days seem better and then I get worse again.  Don't understand that.  Anyone else?

welcome to my world. ha ha i, too, have reflux and i rarely get heartburn. my symptoms are chest pain, nausea, and like you, i am constantly clearing my throat or coughing. also, have alot of post nasal drip. my g.i. dr. says that its all the same track so it's not uncommon to have alot of ear, nose and throat symptoms. even sinusitis can be traced back to reflux. i currently am not taking any meds. can't stand the side effects. i really watch what i eat, don't lay down 2-3 hrs. after eating, sleep with the head of my bed elevated. all things i am sure you have been told already. this is a nasty disorder and does require treatment. over time, the acid washing up your esophagus can cause alot of damage to the lining. it's not just about heartburn, that is for sure. good luck, i hope this helps alittle.
