C DIF TOXIN PRESENT

Hello,

I had my gall bladder & appendix removed 3/18/02. I also had a D&C done at the same time.  I developed a bladder infection shortly thereafter.....was perscribed kef-flex for 10 days...after 7 days infection was still there....was then perscribed cipro for another 5 days....bladder infection gone.
7 days later was struck with the worst diahhea I have ever had...went to the doctor 5 days later, Dr. gave me a perscription of Metronidazol (250mg) but before I could take the drug he wanted me to get a stool sample.  3 days later stool same revealed C Dif Toxin present (doctor said that all the anti biotics that I was taking for the bladder infection killed the good bacteia and left me with the bad stuff.)
...Took the medication for 10 days, everything seemed to be fine.....then 6 days after I took the last pill....the same problem came back....called the doctor he perscribed the same medication but 500 mg....I am now into the 5th day of medication and it is getting better.....

My questions is what should I do if this comes back and could there be something else that the doctor is missing?????...HELP

Thanks,

Saintnut

hello,
i was just diagnosed with c dif on 07/03/02 and started taking metronidazol on 07/04/02.  i took it for a week and felt much better. on 07/13/02, i noticed a difference in the way i felt after eating a large meal.  then i was fine until 07/15/02 when i also ate a large meal.  by 07/17/02, i felt the symptoms of c dif big time so i called the dr. and got another prescription of the same  medication.  i found your site and read your postings and was wondering how you are all doing at this point.  this is scary stuff.  i'd never even heard of it before.

Oh boy the memories.  I ended up with C Diff Toxin and they put me on Flagyl for a month.  I had the same problem though...I was admitted in the hospital for Crohn's disease and then two weeks later went in again for Crohn's, then not three days after that back in the hospital for pnemonia.  A month later I was back at the ER and being admitted for what I thought was another flare from Crohn's.  Come to find out it was C diff.  The doctors aren't real sure how long I had it but it was caused from all the antibiotics killing the good bacteria.  The doctor put me on a month of antiboitics to make sure the C diff was killed for good this time.  Usually I was only on the antibiotics for about a week or two so it would get the diff under control but then it would just come back again.

Good luck to ya.

Hi, as well as the medicine the doctor, take probiotics (available at health food shops) to replace the good bacteria in your gut. My good bacteria was killed off by antibiotics and I am still taaking probiotocs 2 months later. I didn't actually get C. Diff. but the imbalance was such that I was in constant pain- only probiotics (and aloe vera juice) helped.
All the best, Reb
