Help! What do I have?

I have been burping so much for about the past three months.  About a month into it, the burps didn't relieve the abdominal bloating and discomfort.  I also started geting very bad gas. I don't have heartburn.  I saw my doctor and she put me on Prevacid which kind of helped at first (for a couple of days) but now I have been on it for three weeks and I am still burping all the time and have severe gas pain.  At first my doctor said that if my symptoms weren't gone in 2 weeks to come back but I called and now she said to wait another six weeks! This even happens when I have not eaten.  I am SO FRUSTRATED!  What could be wrong?

I have a similar problem, my tummy is very uncomfortable when I eat, but i feel fantastic when my tummy is empty. I am seeing a specialist doctor now, but all I can say is good luck to you!!

Thanks, I will try to keep my diet consistent.  However, my symptoms still occur when I have not eaten anything.

If your burps have an odor, it's called gastroenteritis.

Sounds like it could be delayed gastric emptying, or something.  Try to keep a consistent diet, that's one of the best ways to fight gas and bloating.  Even if it's a notoriously gassy food like beans or cabbage, eating it on a regular basis will allow your body as well as the intestinal flora to adjust to it.  Used to be every time I ate miso soup (has nori seaweed in it, which is chocked full of fiber) I would get gas and diarrhea, but after eating it with other food (instead of eating misosoup alone on an empty stomach) about 3 times a week for about a month, I no longer suffer from any symptoms.  The same thing happened to me when I was younger with refried beans.  I'd eat a can of reduced fat refried beans a day, and after awhile I no longer suffered from gas or diarrhea.
