Unable to eat ANYTHING without experiencing severe diarrhea

Oz
I am a very healthy female in my forties.  I excercise and watch my weight.  At one time, if I ate anything out of the ordinary, I would experience severe stomach cramps, diarrhea, sweating and sometimes vomiting.  For the past week, however, even my toast or cereal has left me hovering in the bathroom.  Do I need to change my diet?  I eat cereal for breakfast, toast after my walk and step aerobics, yogurt for lunch and a bowl of vegetables for supper.  My snacks include an occasional slice of cheese, a couple of cookies or some fruit.  My metabolism is nonexistent and I am trying to lose, but not this way.  Any suggestions?

I recommend that in addition to seeing a good doc, NOW, that you see a good holistic nutritionist, to help you improve your diet, in a way that won't irritate your digestive system.

Here are some "tips":

Some GASTRIC REFLUX TIPS (without acid blockers):

GER=Gastro-Esophageal Reflux. (Gastro=stomach. Esophagus=food tube.)

LPR= Laryngeal-Pharyngeal Reflux. (Larynx=voice box, containing the 2 vocal cords. Pharynx=throat, above the larynx. The larynx is above the trachea/windpipe.)

Reflux=acidic or alkaline stomach material that backs up into the esophagus (food tube), causing any of these problems: VCD/Vocal Cord Dysfunction/Laryngospasm attacks, cough, voice problems, asthma, globus (feeling of lump in throat), constant need to clear throat, worsening of sinus condition, sore throat, pre-cancerous conditions of throat &/or esophagus, etc.

SOME GER/LPR CONTROL THINGS WE DO, that we learned from the excellent book: STOMACH AILMENTS AND DIGESTIVE DISTURBANCES, by Michael T. Murray, N.D. See page 9, References, in my website: http://cantbreathesuspectvcd.com   and, also see GER/LPR info on page 5, and on LINKS page.

PLEASE READ THIS GREAT BOOK. It may possibly be bought on-line, from Michael T. Murray

Dear Oz,

Might you be lactose (milk sugar) intolerant? Try using lactAse enzymes (like the product "Lactaid") with your milk products.

Some people are ALLERGIC to milk proteins, and need to avoid milk products completely (at least for a while). This includes your yogurt, milk, cheese, etc.

Cereal grains (includes toast) can be a problem for some people--especially WHEAT (which has a lot of GLUTEN in it). Gluten is found in wheat, rye, oats, barley & buckwheat. Try avoiding all of these glutenous grains for a few weeks, and see if things get better. Celiac Disease is a severe gluten intolerance, and usually causes lots of diarrhea.

Brown rice is gluten-free.

Might you have some kind of INFECTION in your small or large intestines? (This can include CANDIDA ALBICANS, a kind of YEAST/FUNGUS infection)--often due to antibiotics &/or steroids.

Have you been on any ANTIBIOTICS? If yes, try using PROBIOTICS (Acidophilus & Bifidus) to replace the good bacteria that were killed by antibiotics. Other drugs can kill the probiotics off, too.

Some CHEMICAL "additives" can cause serious diarrhea. Examples are artificial sweeteners, like Equal/Nutrasweet/Aspartame, and FAKE FATS, such as Olean/Olestra, and flavor enhancers such as MSG/Mono-Sodium-Glutamate. Avoid all artificial everything!

Some PARASITES cause diarrhea.

What is your drinking water source? Some municipal water supplies can become CONTAMINATED with E. Coli from RAW SEWAGE SPILLS (this happened today, mentioned on the news), &/or, with an ACCIDENTAL OVERSUPPLY of TOXIC water treatment chemicals!

Some wells can be contaminated with agricultural PESTICIDES (including herbicides, insecticides, fungicides), etc.

Some CHEMICALS can be absorbed and cause problems, such as pest control chemicals, etc.

See a good doc & get some testing done, NOW, to find out what's causing the severe diarrhea.

You may need some digestive enzymes, also.

I'll post some GASTRIC REFLUX TIPS below, to give you more ideas.

I wish you the best.

Sincerely, Concerned lady

Hi oz:  It can be so many things, most of which are minor and easily cleared up.  I have IBD and know a little about visits to the loo.  If it persists I would go to a gastroenterologist and find out, more for your piece of mind than anything else.  Good luck.  PS...fresh fruits and veggies really make it worse as do dairy products sometimes.  Bob
