Right side pain below rib

Over the past year, I have had a right side, below rib pain that comes and goes frequently.  The pain moves to back as a dull ache.  In the past year, I have had what I think is food poisioning about five times.  Every time I get sick, I have vomiting for two days and diahrrea for about 8-10 days.  I have went to the doctor for help but they found nothing serious wrong with me besides an infection in my intestines.  That was only one instance.  The only other problems I have are recurring vaginal yeast infections, which I treat with acidophillus and boric acid, and a food allergy to dairy.  My question is if I should go to an internist, a gastroenterologist, or a regular physician.  I don't want to waste my time being referred all over the place.  Thank you for your help.

I have the same dull ache every once in a while, no other symptoms..I had an ultasound done on my gallbladder and they found a small polyp on the end of it...Doc said not to worry..anyone ever hear of this.  I guess I should have it checked again..it has been about two years and I still get the ache.

Hello.  My mother has been having pain in her right side also.  She checked in a medical symptoms book that pain in the right side accompanied by vomiting and diahrrea was symptomatic of Pancreatic Cancer.  I don't mean to alarm you, but has your Doctor checked anything in that area?

Angela, having just been through a variety of gastro tests myself, I can tell you that a general practitioner or internist can refer you for all of the necessary tests.  I don't think it is necessary to see a specialist unless they find a specific problem, though a gastroenterologist will perform some of the scope tests.  Just a thought. Have you had your gall bladder checked out?  Pain under the right rib is indicative or gallstones.
