Severe Lower Instestinal/Abdominal Pain

I'm a 35yo male. 200lbs. Light drinker. Non smoker.

For the last couple days I've had severe lower instestinal/abdominal pain. At first I just assumed it was indigestion or gas. It feel like there's a balloon trying to go through my intestines...

A BM doesn't seem to relieve the pain. Even in the morning, when I haven't eaten anything since the night before, the pain remains.

No blood in stool. Was watery yesterday, BMs soft today.

The pain makes me double-over and wince 10-20 times a day now.

My doctor is very busy and appointments are always a week or so out, so just "seeing my doctor" may be too late.

Any ideas?

I'm glad to hear you feel a little better. As a medical professional myself, I can tell you that stress can do A LOT to people. From GI problems to heart problems to even some chronic illnesses. Stress is not a good thing to have. But I would still get in to see your regular doctor as soon as possible to at least tell him/her about your recent problems. They may be a little more thourough with testing. I highly doubt that it's appendicitis. If it were, you'd know it! You would have been in worse shape! C-Diff infection is not out of the question but usually accompanied by slight fever and like renny said, a lot of pain. Anyway, I am a former sufferer of ulcerative colitis. I know what IBD/IBS is like so I'm inclined to believe that may be the problem. BUT...to be sure...please see your physician as soon as possible. Take care and feel well.

Update:

Feeling a little better today.

Went to ER yesterday and they said, "Are you feeling stressed? Probabaly just stress" (Which is exactly what I was afraid of. Do doctors just assume that everything is in your head?).

Other than that he said it could be a GI bug of some sort. Ain't gonna kill me...Told me to take Immodium AD and see if I feel better.

Well, it helps a little...

hello,
i was recently diagnosed with c dif.  i had been on some really strong antibiotics for a cate bite.  and after about 2 days of going off of the antibiotics i ended up with severe cramping and diahrea.  i was in so much pain that i cried.  stool samples revealed c dif.  it is treated with a different type of antibiotic.  i took metronidazole for a week and felt good for about 6 days thereafter.  yesterday the symptoms were back so i started a second round of metronidazole.  hopefully this will take care of it.

Get to the ER ASAP.  It could be appendicitis and this can be serious.  Appendix pain is not always just on the right side.

Good Luck and stay in touch.

If you can't get in to see your doctor then you may need to visit the ER.Having pain like that is not normal nor is it something you should have to deal with 10-20 times a day. Irritable Bowel Syndrome is something that could be considered but the pain associated with IBS usually subsides when one has a BM. No blood in the stool is good news. But you still have pain and don't know what's wrong. There are doctors you can see that specialize in gastroenterology. You need to seek one out as soon as you can and get some testing done. Don't live like this anymore. Go to the ER if you have to. Good luck and take care!
