my 3 year having pain and possible blood w/bm

my three year old frequently complains about pain only when she is having a B/M.  It is not every time, but quite frequently. She says to me exactly this "Mommy, my butt hurts!!"
Her stools are not always hard sometimes pretty loose, but even then she says it hurts. Is it possible that she may have hemroids(SP?) at her age? I thought after her last BM I saw some blood.  Her stool looked to be pretty big for her size. Also when people talk about old blood...when it is spotted in the stool, is it actually black or really dark brownish color?  And is it mixed in with or pretty much ALL Black.  I do not want to put my daughter through any tests that are not needed,so is there a fiber supplement I can give her at this age?  If her problem is hard stools, if I can loosen them up to 90% of the time maybe this will help her and if not I can investigate further. I have been giving her prune juice with her apple juice to try and help. Any advice is greatly appreciated!!

I would do the dr thing too.  i work for a pediatrician and alot of times the things little ones eat can change their bowel movement colors...like the prescribed vitamins  (cause constipation and dark stools), red pop or popsicles can change the stool to look like blood in the stool also.  They should be able to do tests right in the office if you take them a sample.  How long has she been trained?..  I know with my little ones they said that at first when they were trained until they could control it and not try to hold it in. Alot of times they tend to hold it.  A good website for little ones is ParentSoup.com they have alot of forums you can speak with other parents about your child.  Good Luck

I always think it best to see a doctor.  Most are sensitive and will try to cause as little discomfort for her as possible.  Better to find the problem and treat it then to let it continue.  It is likely nothing serious, but could be damaging to leave it untreated.  Good luck!
