You may have a disorder called gastroparesis; delayed stomach emptying. Ask your doctor to order a gastric emptying test. It is simple and non invasive and will give you the answer to that question. You might also try a low-fat, low fiber diet, foods that are most easy to digest. Also, try to sleep in an elevated position, perhaps in a recliner, and see if that helps your symptoms. Do not eat for two hours before bedtime, and try eating smaller portions and possibly liquid/soft foods. If those help, you will know that you may be on to something. It is easy to misdiagnose, but your symptoms are classic.
Hello!
If I didn't know better, I would have thought it was me writing your post! However, the symptoms that you mentioned, I had for many, many years. I kind of just lived with them thinking it was lactose intolerance, etc. (even though I still had symptoms with a dairy-free diet)
Anyway, one day last February, I had a terrible pain in my stomach area that lasted for a few hours. I went to my primary care physician the next day and he did a blood test. It came back with elevated liver enzymes. After that, I was referred to a gastroenterologist and he did test after test, and finally they did a test called an ERCP. It turned out that the muscle on the end of my pancreatic duct and gall bladder duct were very tight so.....when I ate fat, the digestive juices were not able to get through and therefore, caused the symptoms. My Dr. cut the muscle and for about a month, my symptoms disappeared. It was great. However, slowly but surely, my symptoms returned. Now, my Dr. believes the scar tissue healed over the duct so I have the same symptoms as before. It's only when I eat fat though so I try to stay on a low-fat/no-fat diet.
I see my Dr. again soon and he may have to repeat the procedure.
When you go back to the Dr. make sure they do a blood test and go from there. Even if your liver enzymes aren't elevated, you could possibly still have something similar to this.
Good luck!!
Sounds like IBS to me too. I am 30 also and suffer from constant nausea and RUQ pain. I have had all kinds of tests done and nothing shows up. I am trying to manage it with Nexium and eliminating fats and lactose from my diet. I also suffer from GERD, hiatal hernia and had my gallbladder out in April. Good luck!
