i have seen 2 drs and been to the emergency room once re this problem

i went to the dr. about 3 yrs. ago because i was having really bad stomach cramps and diarreah--the first dr. told me i had an ulcer and gave me medicine.it didn't help any so i went to another dr. --he didn't run any tests either --just talked to me and said i had a spastic colon--he gave me some medicine--that didn't work either. shortly therafter, i ended up going to the emergency room with severe abdominal cramping. They didn't do too much of anything either, they told me i was dehydrated and they gave me salt water w/ an i.v. and then told me i had  irritable bowel syndrome, told me to take metamucil! i've been dealing w/ IBS and its just getting worse, i have been having severe cramping and diarreah just about every time after i eat anything. The thing i am really worried about now is that there may be soemthing else wrong--i recently had severe cramps and tried to go to the bathroom, i had diarreah and with that there was mucous and blood (about 2 to 3 tablespoons, more blood than mucous)This is the first time this has happened---Should i be worried about the blood or is it not a big deal??? ive been reading up on some things and want to know could i have colitis, it does run in my family. (my grandma had it) Or could it be something even worse, like cancer???? Please help---what should i do???? i would greatly appreciate any advice!!!
thanks,
jessica

Jessica, i know what your going through i recently went to my doctor because i was passing blood from the rectum but i would pass it without having a bowel movement. My doctor told me if the blood is red then you can pretty much rule out an ulcer, now it could be and internal hemeroid or bleeding pulps. but i am not expert or doctor just talking from experience.

it could be colitis but you need to see a doctor regarding this.....it is not normal to bleed and have mucous...the other possibility is hemorhoids (sp) but with the diarrhea i dont think so....please tell your doctor about this and i'm sure it will make him investigate more....good luck
