My son is 5 years old. When I was pregnant with him, the first 3 ultrasounds, starting at 6 wks showed what they called "heart defects." I was having major problems...bleeding and pain. They told my husband and I that I was having a miscarriage. I ignored them and stayed off my feet,at about 12wks, my cervix closed and everything disappered. I had a new doc and everything was ok. Over the past year, I have noticed strange symptoms in him. The first time...he came to me and said he was having a heartattack. I listened to his chest and it was rapidly beating, it sounded like it skipped a few beats. It occurred again and each time he has to go rest. Last night, he was squatting down to draw a picture, no physical activity...he jumped straight up screaming and crying that his heart was hurting, he said a "lobster was pinching it." I listened to it, it was rapidly beating and it skipped a few beats, he rested and it went away. Should I be concerned about this, He's had 2 pediatricians and they said his heart sounded fine. We have moved to a new state and haven't found a doc yet. I don't want to seem paranoid, but, I'll always think about what those first ultrasounds showed.

I think you should take him to a Cardiologist. I think he could benefit from a stress, echo and ekg test and this would also put your mind at ease.

By the way, if your son had a life threatening heart defect that had showed up on your ultrasound..I'm pretty sure he wouldn't be the healthy 5year old he is today.  But, I would seek a Cardiologists opinion on what could be causing his problem at this point in his life and put your mind at ease.

You must be worried sick, and I totally understand.  First and foremost your son MUST be seen by a cardiologist....I personally don't think it is life threatening, but he may have mitral valve prolapse (a flap in the heart that opens and closes a little bit "off" kilter)....while this is not life threatening, MVP can give people wierd heart pains and the doc's don't know how to explain it.....the skipped beats are usually "extra" beats just catching up.......he does need to be fully evaluated though because 5 years old is awfully young to have this pain.....they have wonderful surgeries now a days for a valve problem...... good luck!  I just said a prayer for you....
