I am a 31 y.o. female, 140 lbs. recently diagnosed with diverticulitis.I have had a barium enema. that showed multiple diverticula along the transverse colon but no apparent abscess noted.free fluid was found in my peritineum in small amounts that has resolved itself. I presented in the e.r. with intermittent cramping and pain in the right lower quadrant, n/v and low grade fever and chills. lab results were indicative of infection with a wbc of 20,000 and increased plateletes. I was treated at home with antibiotics and routine course for diverticulitis. Appendicitis was ruled out by the b.e. I had an x-ray , ct scan and ob/gyn consult with out incident.
This is the fourth infection in the past three years. I was actually preped to have appendix out at 8 wks. pregnant with a wbc of 25,000.I am just wondering if diverticulitis on right side and at my age with this many infections of it seems appropriate. If so my path looks a little bleak.. any idea on next step? thanks
