I agree with the tests thus far, and indeed the colonoscopy with biopsies would be the best test to exclude inflammatory bowel disease.
I would also consider upper GI disorders, like an ulcer, inflammation or GERD, and an upper endoscopy can be considered.
Further evaluation of the stomach can be made with a gastric emptying scan, which can exclude gastroparesis (which can lead to bloating).
Otherwise, the ultrasound and CT scan would exclude major GI disorders. I would discuss obtaining the other tests with your personal GI physician.
Followup with your personal physician is essential.

Oh, gosh, your daughter's treatment is appalling. When I was first dx with Crohn's in 1970 (the dark ages) there was no endoscopy of colonoscopy, I had to have a laparotomy, and still have a huge scar from my navel down to my pubic area. Your daughter definitely needs proper diagnosis. I weighed some 60 lbs when dx, because I did not "present" properly, no pain or bleeding, just severe diarrhea and weight loss. Crohn's is an unusual disease with different presentations and definitely needs biopsies of the intestines for a dx, and then proper medications, like immuno-suppressants. It can be a life threatening disease, because of malnutrition and burst intestines, leading to septicaemia.
Even though your daughter has no private medical insurance, I understand there are county hospitals that will treat patients with no insurance. Try and contact the CCFA (Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America) - they have a website and local chapters.
Your daughter needs help now before her condition gets worse.
Take care,
Liz.
Hi : Susie, why do they want to send her home if she is NOT stable?? What are they
telling you her prognosis is?? How was she before the diarehha?
You can get emergency medicade for her as long as she doesn't own much of anything
other then her home and cheap car depending on your state.
Was your daughter on any meds before this happened?
Also I think the Dr. will only respond one time per thread!!
I'm sorry you must be so worried, but maybe it is the crohn's which isn't great but she CAN live with it!! When do you get the results from biopsey
hope all is going better
let us know
in my thoughts......Denise
both drs. said they dont feel she needs the gi or endo. i said i want a second opion our doc said ok but he is going to say the same thing she needs to go home. i said but she will get dehighdrated because she cant eat or drink wiyhout getting sick and they have had her on morphine for a week i just left the hospital. the only other thing is can i have her transford to another hospital. we thought she had no ins but it just ran out the 23 of jan please any suggestions
Hi Susie, I don't think Dr Pho anwers questions at the weekend, but am sure he will respond Monday. In the meantime, you might google "toxic megacolon" to see if the symptoms fit. The doctors may be corect in assuming she has inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn's or Ulcerative Colitis), which presents with diarrhea, pain and sometimes vomiting. If she has an obstruction in her intestines this could be causing the swollen abdomen. The biopsies done with the colonoscopy will show if she has ibd. They may also be doing an endoscopy, which looks at the oseophagus, stomach and small intestine. They will do biopsies there too.
I hope she gets a diagnosis soon, and appropriate treatment.
Take care,
Liz.
