My dog's eye problem

My dog is a Shih Tzu and he's almost 3 years old. Recently, I found that he had something on his eye. I don't really know what it is (please click on the photo provided).
Can you please tell me the diagnosis and what I can do to get rid of it?
Thank you.

A visit to the vet is necessary for this.  Please don't attempt to medicate the dog's eye yourself at home without obtaining a prescription from the vet, since if there is a scratch on the cornea, if you use an eye medication that contains a steroid, it could cause a serious ulceration on the cornea which could lead to eventual blindness.  Please make sure you get an appropriate medication from your vet.  Good luck!  Keep us posted as to your dog's progress!

Hello and welcome.. If your talking about the white cloudy spot, it looks like the beginning of a cataract. However, if it came up suddenly, then it's an infection. Usually, a scratch or dirt or debris can start an infection that ends up looking like this. A Vet visit is a MUST!  Any infection of the eye can get out of hand quickly. Treatment is an antibiotic ointment (Or drops) added to the eye twice a day. They work quickly, but a Vet needs to determine which antibiotic the specific infection needs. Good luck and let us know.......Karla
