shivering

My dog was diagnosed with renal failure.  Sometimes he starts shivering but not for any length of time.  Is this due to the renal failure?

So sorry to read this.  A Forum member, tony, has started a group addressing kidney problems  and you certainly may find help there.  On the right side of this page, find Groups.  Click  on that and you will see Chronic Kidney Failure in Dogs.  Hope that helps.

Dogs can shiver/ shake for several reasons. When it accompanies kidney failure, it is most likely due to nausea. They have flu like symptoms and many dogs will shake with an upset stomach. Other reasons can be anxiety or pain. My best friend is in stage 4 currently, i understand how hard it is. I have found mixing raw ginger root into the food i make foe her helps, also adding pumpkin (if not already high potassium levels) can help. Slippery em bark is another good choice. The vet should also be able to give you a prescription. We use pepcid and i know, many use tums, if your dogs calcium is not already high. Good luck
