Altered hearing during cold

I have a cold for a few days and I had quite a bad earache during night. I then woke up and hear sort of echoes in my ear. It is only in one (the one that hurt), I have no pain anymore, but it is really weird. Also, the "echoes" sound more electronical than normal voice and I do not hear them when some people talk so I guess it depends on the tone of their voice. I can hear echoes of my own voice too...
Do I have to go to see a doctor, or will it just go away? Or can I do something to get rid of it? I am not home, so I do not really know where to go to the doctor and which one to see...
Thanks

No problem.  I had the same issue (though not the metallic hearing), and my doctor told me that was what it is.  She said it also might recur with another cold, and can be annoying, but is not serious.  Suggested I could sleep with a hot-water bottle under that ear.

It is getting better (slowly, but it is) now, so I will just wait until it gets unblocked completely. Thank you for the answer :)

It should go away.  It comes from a blocked Eustacian tube.  If it doesn't change at all in 4 weeks, go see the doc.  But if it gets better (even if slowly) that's probably what it is.
