Cause of Severe Throat Pain, Ear pain? Tonsil stone?

My mom has had severe throat pain that radiates into the ear x2 months. We went to see sm ENT after a round of amoxicillin gave no relief. She has a swollen tonsil on the right side that the ENT said was hard. She said the rest of the exam appeared normal but biopsied the hard spot, cutting a large chunk of tonsil out. It has been 6 days since the biopsy and we get results tomorrow. The PA for the ENT said maybe a tonsil stone, maybe tonsil cancer. She said she saw no signs of infection. When biopsied,  we could see a large white spot. My mom said a few tiny white pieces came out later. The tissue is still red and swollen and very painful. Lots of pressure in the ear and pain with swallowing. Magic mouthwash provides relief. Does anyone know what this could be? If it is a large stone, what is the treatment? Symptoms of stones vs cancer are so similar. We are very scared and would like some opinions of others.

I have a large right tonsil. Left is 2+ and Right is 3+. My ENT did not seem concerned at all. I really thought he would have did a biopsy. Is your mom's other tonsil the same size? I hope ever turns out alright for her.
