Chronic Excessive Phlegm

I have suffered from chronic excessive phlegm every day for six years. My problem is characterized by a need to spit out the phlegm as and when I feel it trickle down the back of my throat. The act of forcibly removing it from my throat is one I have difficulty describing accurately but a 'hocking' sound is always a part of the process. The phlegm is always white. The amounts are usually quite small but the need to spit is very frequent. It is worst in the mornings and afternoons and dies down in the evenings, then vanishes at night. I need to stress the importance of understanding that the phlegm is not being expelled from my lungs but from my throat. It comes straight down from the passage between my nose and mouth. Most sites I've read looking for help only mention phlegm that comes from the lungs.

I am not a smoker nor is anyone I know. I have one known allergy, cats, and I am never near any. I have not suffered from the cold/flu every day for six years straight so don't even go there. I also once suffered from terrible heartburn and my doctor gave me Omeprazole for gastric reflux, and he said it might also rid me of my phlegm. They have since cured me of my heartburn but needless to say my phlegm is still present. He then prescribed me Flixonase, a nasal spray, which I took for several months but with no improvement. I suggested hookworm, a parasite, as a potential cause but he dismissed it as an unlikely explanation given that I am in Britain where it is not present.

I desperately need help with this. Imagine having to go about your daily life making a horrible hacking sound every two minutes. Dates? Jobs? Social life? Sometimes the act of spitting the phlegm makes me vomit reflexively if I don't properly expel it. Not very pleasant. I have a soda can next to my computer which I spit into whenever I'm using it, as it's simply more convenient to use instead of constantly going downstairs to spit it out into the sink. It's disgusting and it's ruining my life. Please, if you've got any idea as to what could be causing this let me know. No matter how wacky or obscure it might sound, trust me, I'll consider it.

If you need to ask me any personal questions to get a better idea of the problem please do. Please somebody end my six years of suffering

parasitic infections have symptoms like everyone is describing.
can't understand why doctors don't/won't acknowledge the possibility.
read up on common roundworm infection to see if anything else matches your situation. if you have a pet....you have parasites in one form or another.
it's not as icky as it sounds and is treatable for sure.homeopathic remedies are available.    just a suggestion.   have a good one
