Coughing that keeps me from sleeping

I recently started waking up several times from coughing.  I attempted to duplicate the problem by napping during the day to see if it would happen and I have narrowed it down to a dripping or tingling sensation in my windpipe or throat that causes me to choke.  When I cough, it makes my chest burn from trying to get the cough out of my throat. No other symptoms are apparent when not attempting to sleep.  I know this is not a chest cold or bronchitis because I have had both this is not nearly as severe; only severe when I sleep.  What can be causing the dripping sensation in the back of my throat and what can be done?  Please help as I am desperate for a good nights sleep.

Yeah, BP medications in the group ACE Inhibitors are known for this.

Ashley...I will give sudafed a try.  Thanks for the suggestion.  To Tomsant...I am on several blood pressure medications.  Do you think there is a connection?  I also take Nexium on a daily basis.  Part of my blood pressure regimin includes a diuretic.  Otherwise, I take 3 high blood pressure meds.

Thanks for the comments...

How long have you been having this?
What all medications are you on now, over the counter as well as prescription (for whatever ailment)

Are you on any antihypertensive medication?

It sounds like post nasal drip.

Do you have allergies? Do you smoke? Do you have a runny nose/any sinus related symptoms?

Sometimes over the counter decongestants can help with things like this, because you want to dry up the mucus that is dripping. I would give that a try first...something like Zyrtec, Sudafed, etc. Zyrtec seemed to help my Mom with this problem quite a bit.

Best of luck!
