Ear Parasite?

I was talking to my mom on the phone last night and she was telling me that she has these small transparent (1 millimeter wide by 2 or 3 millimeters long) foreign objects on her ear. She said they have "feet" like ends to them and that it hurts VERY badly when she pulls them out. She said she has removed around 5 of them and they are only found on one of her ears. If anyone has any thoughts about what this might be, I would love to point her in the right direction of what to do... She was referring to them as needles and that they are making her balance off.
