Left-sided Vocal Cord Paralysis

Left-sided Vocal Cord Paralysis

For Any Patients/Specialists Reviewing this.......
I have an 81 yr. old mother diagnosed by scope with left sided vocal cord paralysis.  CT w/contrast proved uneventful according to radiologist report............  Previous history of bacterial infection in toe of left foot;    leading to a PIC line being installed for 7-8 weeks to cure that up....... and review X-rays/follow up confirmed this cleared.
***My question - I have heard that some sort of virus can attack the nerve to the vocal cord and in effect .....paralize it.  How do you know that the virus is out of system and no longer doing damage to the vocal cord; and how do you know if there is something else continually doing damage/ worsening the situation ??????
***Treatment Options ????  She has been with voice for 3-4 months now and it is very difficult for her.  Also has a valve problem with he heart(calcified, narrowed and not functioning as it should.... i.e. beginnings of conjective heart failure).  Any cor-relation of this somehow being involved ????
******Any feedback/discussion would be welcomed.      Am very concerned over Her well-being !!!!!!!!
