Question about cough

OK this is a very strange story but im concerned.
On Sunday, I was trying to open a bag of M&M's and I couldn't open it. I used my teeth and got a small part of the plastic in my mouth and about 5 seconds later before I had time to spit it out, I inhaled the piece of plastic by accident. Now I have a cough and I'm concerned that it caused damage in some way. Am I going to be alright? Did I cause damage or anything like that? Or is it likely that it's a cold or the like.

Thanks.

If the cough is due to irritation caused by mild injury by the plastic piece, it should go away.
There is a chance you have inhaled it into the lung passages if the plastic piece was too small. That can irritate the inside of the lung and cause the cough.

It is wise to see an ENT or Thoracic surgeon who can examine and advise you.

Best,
