Red spot on tongue

My daughter recently started complaining of her tongue itching, when I looked at it, It looked red and raw in the middle. She also complains that it hurts and has trouble eating. She has had it for a few days now and and we took her to a doctor who said she doesn't know what it is that it looks more like a burn, but my daughter hasn't burned her tongue. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
