Hello, been a while since I have been on here, as things were going pretty good at the begining of the year. My daughter is still continuing to have the same problems, thick mucous, feels like choking on it when swallowing, has sore teeth as well. She had another CT scan of the Sinuses done, and this CT showed, stenosis of the frontal recesses and maxillary ostia with a right nasal deviated septum. Is this something to be really concerned about??? It seems like a very abnormal CT scan to me, but our ENT says it just means she has a sinus infection??? Can all of this be causing her problems?? If so, is there any way to treat this?? It seems like she is on anti-biotics every month, as she keeps getting either sinus infections which always turn into lower respiratory infections?? We are just really concerned parents, as we do not want her to build up a tolerance to antibiotics, we try not to give them to her, but treat her with OTC meds instead. With all of her other medical conditions we are just too afraid to add more medication to her. Any help or suggestions would be very appreciative. thank you so much
Hello and hope you are doing well.
In addition to mucinex she could take multivitamins. Also, give her plenty of warm oral fluids. For further relief from her symptoms she could do warm salt water gargles and steam inhalations. Please ensure to do this prior to her meals. This will help to liquify her secretions. Hope this helped and Do Take Care!
Thank you for your feedback on this, this is something we have not looked at yet... she has had a CT scan and swallowing study done now and the CT scan showed her sinuses closed, however her ENT that she sees says this is okay, and to keep her on Mucinex as needed.... I hate keeping her on meds, but it does help her a lot to be on the Mucinex as it keeps her symptoms very mild, but if she misses one table of it, her symptoms continue like they were.. We will definatly go see her Pulmonologist about this. Thanks again for the advice.
Hello and hope you are doing well.
Understand your predicament. If she is on inhalers for the Asthma, check to see if there is a fungal infection in the throat, this could cause problems with swallowing. Difficulty swallowing can also happen due to iron deficiency anemia causing Plummer-Vinson syndrome, where there changes to the soft lining of the throat. This can be detected by a simple blood test. Please discuss this with your doctor am sure he will provide further assistance.
Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
