Sinus Surgery SHould I do It?

Hi All,

I have been a long time sufferer of sinus infections, a few years ago I was dx with Chronic Sinusitis. Every time I get a cold it turns into a sinus infection that take multiple rounds of antibiotics to clear up along with nasal sprays and nasal rinses.

This year has been particularly difficult with my nasal secretions being extremely thick and bloody. I just finished my 3rd round of antibiotics and Flonase but I still have facial/neck pressure and feeling like my nose it stuffy all the time and someone is pushing on my cheek.

I had a CT done in the ER because the pressure was so intense, that showed Mild Para nasal sinus disease/mucoperiosteal thickening.  I saw my ENT and she said since I have been having issues for so many years that she wants to go in and clear out my maxillary sinuses, reduce my turbinate's and shave my septum.

I was all goneho that day in the office and was let's do this but now as the pre-op day comes closer I'm getting more nervous about doing this surgery. When I am having the symptoms I am like I cant wait for the surgery but then when I feel a tad better I'm like maybe I don't need surgery.

So I just wanted to see those that suffer from chronic sinusitis with he facial pressure and dizziness, did you get the surgery and if so how were your results, or should I just try and continue holding off until the symptoms are worse.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi, understand your anxiety. When therapy for sinusitis fails with max medical treatment then surgery is indicated. This will help open up and drain the sinuses. Facilitating adequate drainage can help prevent recurrent sinusitis and an allergy specialist may try to identify the offending allergen and try to desensitize you. So, work both ways and tackle your problem. Good luck with your procedure. Regards.

Thank You, I held off on the surgery and went to an allergist that confirmed several allergies. I will be starting treatment next week and in 6 months they will recheck my ct. If at that time I still have swelling then they will do the Surgery.

Thank you so much for your answer :)
