What to do for post nasal drip AND dry unproductive cough?

I was treated last month for a sinus infection. (I have lots of sinus infections, have had surgery on my sinuses, etc.) Doc gave me a z-pack and prednisone. Suggested I try Claritin or zyrtec to see if allergies are triggering all of this. Claritin is helping a lot with the post nasal drip, but now the junk in my chest seems tight and I have a dry, unproductive cough. Should I try mucinex to loosen up the chest and continue with Claritin?

He might have a yogurt maybe once in 6 months but definitely no sugar at all in the diet.

Thanks for the input. I haven't given up dairy and sugar altogether, but have drastically reduced both, especially dairy. Only eat the occasional cheese. Has your husband given up these things altogether or does he occasionally partake?

My husband's sinus infections stopped when he gave up dairy products and sugar.
