losing my voice alot at the moment !!

I'm a 15 year old girl. I have lost my voice 4 times in the last 6 months the first time I lost it for a week the second time 12 day, the third time 24 days and the forth time I lost it for just over a week. I have no idea what is causing it. I also have a very bad cough at the moment and I am concerned that it may all be linked ! I have been to the doctors and had a camera down my throat but there was nothing physically wrong with my vocal cords. Do you know what could be causing it ??

Thank you for getting back to me. Went to the doctor a number of times but he was insistent it was most likely lyringitis I had two lots of antibiotics and they didn't help I have my voice now but am a bit worried that ic could go again because I am currently coughing a lot. I have also so tried the salt water gurgling and many other possible solutions that people suggested but nothing helped but it comes back eventually. Just hoping it does not go again

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello and hope you are doing well.

It could that you are having repeated episodes of throat infection/inflammation which is causing you to lose your voice. This can occur due to a post nasal drip, which can cause a chronic irritation in the throat. This could be due to a sinus infection, a cold or a chronic allergy. It could be sinusitis, if it is accompanied by nasal stuffiness and facial pain or pressure. Post nasal drip could also be due to allergens. These are substances like pollen, dust, animal dander, certain foods, insect venoms and certain medications. Exposure to allergens causes a runny nose with a resultant post nasal drip where secretions from the nose go backward into the throat and irritate. Check with your doctor to rule out these conditions.

In the meantime rest your voice and eat well balanced meals to boost up your immunity. Also salt water gargles may help.

Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
