what causes tumors in the ear?

i have a habbit of getting an ear bud and pushing it down my ear as far as i can and rub hard and fast. i guess it feels realy nice. on a few occasions i have lost the cotton and had to retrieve it using a pair of twizers.
i have now been told i might have a tumor or a polyp down my ear. (by a doctor)
what do you rekon it is?
can tumors be caused by this?
can polyps?

thank you.

I doubt you have a cholesteotoma, the other growth (http://www.bad.org.uk/public/leaflets/chondroderm.asp) I have mostly seen in people that have a history of swimming in cold water, or growing up in really cold climates.
