There is surely nothing to fear.Endoscopy has come a long way and its now done as an out patient procedure with risks almost negligible. What you have heard is the exception and not a rule.A proper diagnosis requires aids and endoscopy is one of them.Surely, this is an important procedure and better get it done with, rather than suffer with the problem which gets worse with hearsay knowledge from others. What you did with the gums is unacceptable in medical practice. You can't get twice lucky. So, better be careful because teeth problems are documented to relate to grave infection including that of the heart. It takes years of effort to sit and advice in a medical forum, its always more than what meets the eye and so better let the qualified handle the problem next time.

As far as I know of regarding endoscopy, It seems risky and because of it I do not want to do so. I have heard of few cases that has led them paid heavily-I mean death. However, I would like to know if there is any easier way to resolve my case.

One thing that I notice is that it is not getting worse and today i feel little easier indeed, I don't know why.

I also had a gum swelling which happened after the throat problem and it is already curred in about 2 weeks time just without any medical help. I myself squeezed the part after piercing it with a toothpick and in few days it is all gone and cured.

The passage may be uncomfortable but the destination is what matters! So you need to go through the endoscopy for enlightening the doctor about your problem so that the treatment hits a bull's eye and does not beat around the bush! The doctor seems to have given you the right advice and I would suggest the same. Get better and keep informed.Symptoms are suggestive of Gastro-esophageal Reflux Disease and in case you smoke, please let the last one be the last forever! Wish you the best!

can you describe the discomfort? is it irritation or swallowing difficulty, any voice change and if the same gets exaggerated after having food? Are your food habits erratic? maybe an answer to these questions would narrow down the possiblities of your problem and help me answer you better.
