Any thoughts or experience appreciated

I have been experiencing more of an unbalanced feeling like on a boat then dizziness. I have had vertigo in the past which is much worse than this feeling. Anyway it started with a simple nose run about 8 weeks ago and I took over-the-counter decongestants to control, which worked for a while, but it never cleared up and soon were inafective. I went to my GP who gave said I had sinusitis and put me on antibiotics (Z-pac) and said to continue with decongestants. After a week it was no better so he put me on meclazzine and nasanex and sent me for MRI. MRI was negative for anything serious (that was good) but showed massive amount of fluid in the back of my head. I was sent to a nueologist who confirmed the MRI results but said I should have been refered to a ENT and immediately set it up.
After 3 visits with ENT I told him that I was experiencing pressure build up in the ears like I was at 30,000 ft in a plane and could not get my balance as if I were on a boat. I also told him that I had stopped all medication except the Nasonex which made me feel better. He did ear pressur test which were in the -270 range and hearing tests which showed the left ear had some loss of hearing compared to the right. He started me on steroids for 5 days and that did nothing. Next he set me up for tubes in the ear. This has cleared up the pressure feeling of being in an airplane but now I feel like I was in water and can't get it out of my ears. The left side is worsewhich goes back to the hearing test, my overall hearing has been negatively affected from previous condition and my balance isse is still a problem. Any experience or toughts would be appreciated.

This sounds suspicious of Meniere's Disease.  Just goggle and see what you think.  There is NO cure for this disease; it is only managed unfortunately.

In my experience, inner ear disorders/diseases are tricky to diagnose; alot of them are very similar to each other.  I know because I have been battling one myself for little over a year now.  It is possible you could have two different problems going on at the same time too, but I don't think so.

I absolutely hate the boat rocking sensation, which I have had over the last year; it is lessening somewhat.  I just went to another Neurologist last week because my balance is still an issue and he has ordered some more tests for me.  Meanwhile, I try to stay as active as possible and I work as well.  It is not easy to do somedays.

I can absolutely empathize with you.

You can PM me if you want to hear more about my experience living with a inner ear problem.

See the thread above on this forum which was started in 2007.  My comment is the most recent post.  Looks quite similar.
