Holy **** I can't believe im not the only one this describe d ot perfectly. I have these sensations a couple of times now but not consistently, so either when i wake up or the feeling causes me to wake but it makes me think something like a roach is crawling up my throat. Its very stressful so i viscously start swallowing immediately and scramble to get water and as i start drinking it clears up. The first time it happened was a few months ago and my sleeping situation has changed basically im sleeping on the equivalent of a bean bag (its a long story) but anyway that might be some link there if any of you remember if something changed with how you were sleeping or what you were sleeping on. I want to get to the bottom of this. I just made an account JUST to respond to this.
I am so glad I'm not the only one. I woke up one morning feeling I swallowed a June bug and it was caught in my throat. This is my only way to describe how it feels. Well now it's not only in the morning I get this feeling in my throat during the day also and thought I would look up to see what this could possibly be.
I have actually had that happen before. It ironically was on a night I was tired and fell asleep immediately after coming home and eating, thus I skipped brushing. I woke up to what I thought was a roach struggling to crawl back out of my throats after he had crawled in while I was asleep. Since then I've been over the years occasionally hacking up parts of the roach that have been stuck in my throat. It'll panic and choke from your throat wrapping around it pretty quickly. Then you've got a dead roach on your hands. If he doesn't pass along to your stomach and gets caught in your throat he'll eventually start to decay and soften from your saliva over time. Once he starts to break apart into pieces you'll eventually cough these pieces up one by one. It may take some time. I've seen the pieces of it that have come out of my throat and can easily be identified as part of a roach. For example, the legs, wings, antennas. Lemonade tends to help me the most as the lemon seeps into the throats and aids in removing saliva and mucus that can keep the roach stuck within your throat.
Long story short, always brush before bed.
i think we are all crazy. i have the same problem and im currently on the internet trying to find out whether its possible to have a live cockroach/spider in your throat. im freaking out too. i think i need crazy pills.

It seem first that you haven't swallowed anything, so something else is causing the problem.
Here's an idea on getting a better understanding of what is going on. This should help you go to sleep too.
1) get a inexpensive breathing filter, Home Depot, Walmart... this use an elastic strap around the head and the mask covers both the nose and mouth. These are intended to protect the wearer from breathing in larger particles, particles much smaller than bugs.
2) try using one of the dry mouth preparations before going to bed. You may be getting a "dry throat" problem from too much breathing through your mouth. Most of us get "dry mouth" thus the name of the preparation. But I suppose one could also get irritation in the throat.
If you still have the feeling, one thing you can be sure of is there is not bug in your throat... you either have a mentally caused false alarm, or something else if causing the problem... do get this sensation only when awaking from sleeping? How about when awaking from a short nap, during the day time?
