Nose drainage

Was standing straight up and out of no where my right nostril was running a light yellow watery substance out of it like i had the faucet turned on! Not any idea what it could be or why. I haven't been sick, no sore throat, headache, nothing. So, Im quite freaked out by this it lasted about 3-5 min. and beleive me when I say it was continuous, soaked 2 tissues and a handful of toilet tissue. Please give me something as to whether I need to see a Dr. or what. Oh and as i was holding the tissue in my nostril, I could feel it going into my  throat, as if it were backing up....Scary!

A sudden unprovoked episode of nasal discharge,if not having history of nasal allergy, can be cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) rhinorrhoea which is the leakage of the fluid that surrounds the brain through the nose. Its known to occur mostly with inrcreased intracranial pressure, which is increase in the pressure surrounding the brain, but can also happen without such history. The characteristic of the fluid is that it is very watery and cannot be sniffed back and on a handkerchief would form halos in circles around a point. The fluid needs to be examined for presence of glucose (which is a feature of CSF) and would require an metrizamide CT Scan along with nasal endoscopy to confirm the site of leak if any.In most cases, the same should stop with rest and the person is strictly asked not to do any activity which can raise the CSF pressure (like lifting weight and blowing the nose hard) and also receive laxatives and cough suppressants if they suffer from constipation and cough respectively.Do not be alarmed but visit an ENT surgeon for an opinion.

No worries.

Sounds like post nasal drip; can be disgusting, nothing life-threatening.  Post nasal drip occurs when excessive mucus is produced by the sinuses thus accumulating in the back of the nose and/or throat.

I would recommend consulting an ENT Specialist for an assessment.

You can try OTC medications too.

I get this alot myself; allergies are terrible since moving to Europe.
