Throat spasms or Gerd?

My question has to do with a feeling I've been having in my throat. It's mildly uncomfortable. It doesn't feel like heartburn. It feels more like spasms to me.I used to take a medicine for acid reflux, but haven't done so for probably 2 yrs.I prefer the probiotic route and eat yogurt regularly. So can anyone tell me how I might be able to differentiate between the two?!

Hello and hope you are doing well.

GERD (Gastro Esophageal Reflux Disease), where the acid contents of the stomach came up into the esophagus will cause a burning sensation behind the sternum and sometimes in the throat. If the throat is irritated from any cause, it can lead to muscle spasms in the throat. Sometimes the sensation can be due cricopharyngeal (muscle in the throat) spasm. But this is a harmless and will resolve itself over a period of time. If the spasms persist, consult your doctor for an evaluation.

Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
