Sharp Painful Bones on Bridge of the Nose

Any help or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

In Elementary school, I fractured my nose pretty bad. Then in my early teens, I realized I had a 'bump' on the bridge, & a deviated septum.

The 'bump' is caused by 2 super sharp bones sticking out. (It's so extreme/sharp that family & friends I let touch it were *all* really shocked by it, & assured me it was*not* normal.) I'd reach up to feel it, & it's even painful to *touch* it, because the skin is so thin there. Whenever I do, it just feels like a big bruise & often gives me a major headache.

This is especially bad because I've always had sinus headaches, & they usually center on that one spot. If for any reason my nose swells, the pain doubles because of the extra pressure. I'm 26 years old, & I *still* can't touch it without pain. It seems to be at least partially responsible for my sinus headaches, & caused my deviated septum (which has caused me not to sleep very well).

My question being, would a doctor remove the sharp problem as a necessary medical procedure, given my circumstances? Or would they say it  was 'cosmetic', even when it isn't? I know I simply can't afford cosmetic surgery, but could probably manage a medical procedure with a little help from insurance.

Thanks so much for your time, & for reading this. Again, *any* opinion or thought is appreciated.
Happy Holidays!

Hello and hope you are doing well.

The deviated nasal septum can be corrected. As for the ‘bump’, it needs to be assessed with X rays, only then surgical therapy can be planned. It could be a combined procedure, surgery for the deviated septum and the bump. Consult your primary care physician, who may then refer you to an ENT surgeon.

Hope this helped and do keep us posted.

I would suggest you see a plastic surgeon or ENT about it and see if they are able to code the procedure in a way that insurance would cover it.  You will get a better cosmetic result from a plastic surgeon, but maybe the ENT would cost less.  Just have the bump fixed at the same time as the deviated septum is fixed.  It is a common procedure.
