Strange nasel affliction

every now and then my fiance gets a strange affliction in his nose, suddenly everything he smells and tastes has a terrible smell and/or taste, He says its like something chemical or dead. it only goes away if he forces water up into his nose, like poking a hole in the lid of a water bottle and squirting it up into his nasel passage. it only bothers one side. and if he plugs that side, the taste problem goes away, but as soon as he unplugs his nose, if he hasnt done the water thing, then the bad taste problem returns. he also got a nosebleed randomly but its not common or frequent and im not even sure if its related to this problem but I thought it would be benificial to mention. he has been to a EN&T doctor and they gave him antibiotics and said it was sinusitis and it should go away. it didnt. now hes had this problem for YEARS. the EN&T doctor said he might need surgery but idk im no doctor but this seems to be more than just sinusitis...expecially if its been a reaccuring problem for years. the fact he cant enjoy food without flushing his nose out in a dramatic mannor is dabilitating to his everyday life. he has to do it at least once a day. Im concerned and would love it if someone has some answers. thank You.

Hi,

You need to consult another ENT specialist to treat this problem. He requires a CT scan of the paranasal sinuses to look for sinusitis and any other problems associated.
Any more doubts you are welcome.

Your fiance is very smart with the poking of the hole in the squirt bottle, but he's fighting gravity, and gravity always wins.

The Sinus Flush uses gravity.  It sounds like he has an anaerobic bacterial infection (I've had similar problem), and it should be treatable.  Don't do it for more than 2 weeks to let all the good bacteria grow back.  If no success, Google the word "Phantosmia" to look for other causes.

The Flip-Turn Sinus Flush is mildly risky, because you have to bend over to do it, preferably in a shower, but you can also do it outside on soft ground, or you can kneel down and lean over a bathtub with the shower running.
