Still having erection issues

Hi,

I've been back and forth on this forum, back and forth with doctors and am still having ED issues. I'll be brief as possible in my description. I'm 24, 6'7 and 240 pounds. I'm very healthy (work out twice a day), smoke recreationally and have a great girlfriend. As a teenager, I was literally able to sleep with any girl that walked. Since then however, I've noticed my body starting to slow down if you know what I mean. I'm finding that my sex drive is not what it used to be. I've been to multiple doctors and urologists who believe that this problem is in my head (as they can't find anything physically wrong with me). My testosterone levels are normal, and nothing appears to be physically wrong with my penis.

I've been prescribed viagra, levitra and cialis; all of which have worked. Since I was 19, when I first began experiencing this problem, I used viagra for just a couple of months when with a new girl to get over the mental anxiety I had of performance issues. After a while, when I essentially didn't care how I performed, I was able to stop taking it all together. Now I've been with a girl since late April and have been taking a very very low dose of either Cialis or Viagra or both to address this issue. I actually was able to have sex without the help of any pills for about a week but then I started to notice this issue again and started back on the pills. However, even when I was able to have sex without pills, I've noticed it is increasingly difficult to maintain an erection once it's up. Like it'll go away after a while unless I am constantly stimulating myself and focusing intently.

Another important factor I think I should mention is that I've not experienced a nighttime erection in about 2 weeks. I don't know if that could be something to do with my anxiety that is affecting me even when I sleep or if this is inidicitive of a physical issue that wasn't caught by the urologists I've seen. I average about 5 hours of sleep per night so I don't know if it's lack of sleep that could be causing the issue? I also wanted to mention that I normally masturbate at least twice/day.

In brief, I want to get off of the pills altogether and enjoy sex like every other 24 year old out there. I find myself constantly trying to get an erection on my own, whether im in the bathroom at work, or lightly touching myself when I'm home or sitting down somewhere to see if I can cause even a little bit of arousal like I know it would have when I was younger. This usually tends to not work.

I'm also currently taking as supplements creatine, nitric oxide, l-argenine, fish oil, ginko bilboa and horny goat weed in hopes that this would alleviate my problem. For 2 weeks now, still nothing. Like I said, I'm usually able to struggle a little bit and eventually get an erection but I tend to lose it halfway through fourplay. I also don't understand why I'm having an increasing trouble of getting an erection on my own and am having a lack of nighttime erections. I had actually broken up with a girl in early April before my current partner, wasn't as attracted to her physically, and was able to get an erection naturally anytime I wanted. I also experienced frequent nighttime erections.

Please...if anyone can offer some words of encouragement or some guidance it'd be greatly appreciated. I can't think of anything else to be honest as it is very frustrating to constantly question if you'll be able to get it up at 24 years old when you're supposed to be healthy. Thanks in advance and I hope to hear from you all soon.

Bigboi,

This problem is similar to one that has been plaguing me recently.  I seriously doubt that either of us have bona fide ED though.  At this age, the odds are very slim that it is a physical problem.  I'm almost totally convinced that it is all in your head.

I'd say slow down on the masturbation to start with.  Most teenage guys can get hard-ons willy nilly, whether you beat it or not, but it's not like that anymore.  Age does set in, just not to the point that you have ED, per se.  Think about what happens when you get done having sex:  You go limp, and then your brain says "Mission Accomplished -  Shut Down!"  And you go right to sleep.  Well, when you masturbate, you are probably desensitizing yourself.  So try to skip that for a day or two, and save your energy for the sex.

I also believe that once someone has this sort of an occurrence, that that person becomes anxious about it, and it begins a viscious cycle in your head that is very difficult to break.  Specifically, you're with a girl that you think is drop dead gorgeous, and you really want her to be happy.  Through all the anticipation, you get some stage fright, and it totally messes with your head.

If you plan on being with your girlfriend, you ought to skip masturbating so that when you see her you are beating your chest like an angry gorilla.

And if SEREDYN doesn't work, I may try STABLON: it is an antidepressant with anxiolytic effects that has the opposite effect of SSRI's.

I know this sounds like a lot of stuff (I'm taking three different products just to improve my erections!) but I only take approved meds and I've had excellent results.

I know how you feel and I'm going through a similar problem. I've always been a terribly anxious person and anxiety can have drastic effects on your sex life. I'm always able to obtain a great erection but sometimes I get too nervous and lose it just before erection. Sex is like a lottery to me: sometimes I am able to penetrate, sometimes I am not. This is terribly frustrating. A year ago, I tried Viagra and results were excellent. I'm currently taking Cialis 20 mg and a new ED drug called VIGAMED (oral phentolamine). I sometimes also use a penis ring. My performance has improved but it's not infallible and every now and then anxiety still gets in the way.

I'm not an expert but I believe doctors may be right in your case. You seem to be anxious and affected by this: «I find myself constantly trying to get an erection on my own, whether im in the bathroom at work, or lightly touching myself when I'm home or sitting down somewhere to see if I can cause even a little bit of arousal like I know it would have when I was younger»

First and foremost, try not to worry (easier said than done, I know). Don't think about it too much. I also suggest you try VIGAMED (formerly known as Vasomax). It is not a PDE-5 inhibitor, it is an alpha blocker. VIGAMED blocks alpha receptors in the penis and inhibits the negative effects of stress hormones (adrenaline is an erection killer). This drug is not available in the US but you can order it online.

I'm also trying a new approach: take an anti-anxiety med and get to the root of the problem. There's a problem, though: most anxiolytics can actually decrease libido and worsen ED (especially SSRIs). This is why I chose a natural supplement called SEREDYN: I started yesterday, so it's still too early to see any results but I'm very confident about this. One of the ingredients of SEREDYN is L-theanine: it raises dopamine (the 'love hormone') and GABA levels and has no sexual side effects.

I hope this helps. If you want to continue this conversation, contact me at: ***@**** Good luck!
