Esophagus removed by accident

My farther-in-law went in for rountine surgery to have his thyroid removed and the Dr. accidently removed his esophagus. Yes, you are reading correctly ACCIDENTLY removed his esophagus. He has undergone a number of surgeries at MUSC; however none at this point has been successful. They re-constructed a new esophagus from his thigh tissue. They have placed two seperate stints in but neither has worked. The scar tissue continues to grow up keeping him from swallowing. He is 75 and was in excellent health prior to this problem. Is there any help out there for him?
