How can i lose weight? I'm sick of yo-yo dieting...

Hi, im 16 years old and weigh183 lbs and im 5"8

i have been eating healthily for a while now but no weight has been lost. i have been on various diets since as long as i can remember, all i want to do is get back my childhood. quite depressing going anywhere with friends who are all stick thin.

went to a dietician last year and lost about 14 lbs but put it all back on again. earlier this year i did the slim fast diet which didnt work at all, i just felt miserable. i try to go to the gym but i have no motivation as i always get tired and worn out really quickly. i found this morning a legs bums and tums video on sky. so will try that every day for a few weeks. i have quite toned legs but have the worst kind of fat. belly fat. i understand how bad it is for my health which is why i want to lost the weight plus i want to wear a bikini for the first time this summer!!

would really like to talk to a dietician regularly but with the one i went to last time i only saw her every couple of months, so perhaps talking to someone a bit more regularly will be better?

First of all charlie-   hs your dr checked out any medical reasons like thyroid problems?

Second of all - you need to keep a food diary and write down EVERYTHING you eat and drink -  including any little munchies like a candy or even a grape -  if it goes in your mouth and is a food or drink source -  WRITE IT DOWN...

The most likely thing is you are taking in too many calories and not burning off enough...

So here is my advice:

1) eat smaller portions
2) drink 8-10 glasses of water a day
3) cut out soda or caffinated drinks
4) walk as much as you can -  even if it is up and down stairs, round the yard, to the store, round the store.
5) get enough rest -  your body ideally wants 8 hours sleep but needs 8 hours rest.
6)exercise wise do short bursts at home  - I do sets of 30 sit ups every time there is a commercial break I the tv show I am watching.
7) don't eat after 7pm.
8)Untill youa re used toportion sizes and calorie values -  weigh and measure your food.
9) dont give up
10) use the tracker and the forums here for support.

good luck -  the biggest step is deciding this time you can do it -  and then being honest with yourself and determined.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello!

The best way is to calculate your BMI and sticking only to the maximum no of calories you have to per day and make this a habit for long term good health.

Your diet should be divided meals with a good proportion of proteins, followed by high fiber carbohydrate and enough of salads and fruits, fish for giving you the required vitamins and minerals.

Then concentrate on output after you control your input. Go for regular cardio or sports whatever you like, you have to motivate yourself and go for 45 minutes of regular cardio by losing around 500 calories per day will help you getting back to shape.

Take care!
