My father had his silicon Oil Removal Surgery (victrectomy was perfoemed mid dec) 2 days ago, ..... the doctor has checked the retina and it is attached.

but when he is sitting up, .. or standing, ... he sees a black ring, .. almost like a circumference of his eye, .. and framing his vision thru that eye, .....

That ring does not exsist if he is lying down and looking up?

I had vitrectomy surgery and silicone oil in 2002. Oil was removed after 6 months and i started to see hundreds of floaters, sometimes in shape of small dots, sometimes rings (a very big one time to time). My surgeon told that they are caused by remainings of oil. If i turn my face down so long, they gather around and block my vision but usually they split up and i hardly notice them. You get used to it over time.

My opininon for you is its because of oil and not to be worried about. But of course you should ask your doctor to be sure.

Because of how it moves it is in the vitreous could be air, could be vitresous floaters, could be reisdual oil. He will need to ask his retina surgeon.
