Bloodshot eye 3 months after surgery

Hi,

My Grandma had cataract surgery on her right eye 3 months ago. She is scheduled for the second eye in 3 days. Her right eye has recently got very red, looks bloodshot. She says it is sore. We are concerned. She has never been able to see properly since the surgery, she is a writer and spends much time on her computer reading and writing so having her eyes work is very important to her well being. She phoned her doctor but he is on holiday and cannot be reached. She lives in a small town, we are wondering if she needs to go to the hospital to have her eye looked at or can it wait until her next surgery in 3 days? Why would her eye be red now, 3 months later? She doesn't do much so not sure how or why this happened.

Cataract surgery is elective surgery and why would you go ahead with the second operation when she is unhappy with the first operation and not able to see properly? Then she might have the problem in both eyes.

Consider postponing the surgery on the second eye and get different second opinions on what the problem is with the first eye.

If the eye is painful, red and blurry she should see an ophthalmologist or optometrist to make a diagnosis.

Again this forum is full of people unhappy with the results of surgery on their first eye, when ahead and had second eye done and now unhappy with both. In our practice we do not do surgery on second eye till the patient is totally happy and pleased with the first eye.
